Following the global success of “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse: “Godzilla II: King of the Monsters,” an epic action-adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history.
The film is directed by Michael Dougherty (“Krampus”), and stars Kyle Chandler (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Argo”) as well as Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga (“Up in the Air,” “The Conjuring” films) and Millie Bobby Brown (TV’s “Stranger Things”) in her feature film debut. The acclaimed ensemble cast also includes Bradley Whitford (“Get Out,” “The Post”); Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (“The Shape of Water,” “Blue Jasmine”); Charles Dance (HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” “The Imitation Game”); Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s “Silicon Valley”); Aisha Hinds (“Star Trek Into Darkness”); O’Shea Jackson Jr. (“Straight Outta Compton”); Oscar nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck,” “Godzilla”), with Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception,” “Godzilla”) and Golden Globe nominee Ziyi Zhang (“Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”).
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
Godzilla King of the Monsters Roars on to 3D IMAX
Having the chance to see Godzilla King of the Monsters in 3D IMAX was something I didn’t want to miss out on, so I headed over to my nearest IMAX Cinema in Broughton, grabbed my ticket and waited in anticipation for the film to start.
I have to say that I love Godzilla, I have been a fan since the first movie outing of the Kaiju in 1954, obviously I saw it later in the 70s/80s but boy oh boy dig it take me on the path of monster movies, since then Godzilla has had many outing on the big screen and small screen, we will ignore the 1998 version!
Godzilla King of the Monsters follows on from 2014, which let’s face it we didn’t see much of the mighty Kaiju, well not as much as we would have liked, then came Kong Skull Island which teased us with end credits and Godzilla’s distinctive roar!
Now we have the latest in the Godzilla movies and it turns out from many reviews that it seems to bit of a “Marmite Movie”! For me though I love the movie, heading into the cinema the warning on the door about Godzilla’s roar had me even more excited, then when the film started and the roar came, wow did I have shivers down my spine!
Godzilla King of the Monsters has such a simple story that it is certainly a popcorn movie to enjoy, Titans are being unleashed and only one Kaiju can save the Earth from them, the king of the monsters, Godzilla.
There really isn’t a let up on the action in the movie, the battle sequences are brilliant and seeing the Godzilla King of the Monsters in IMAX 3D not only looks good, the IMAX sound vibrated the seats with the explosions, jets flying from behind towards the screen and of course the iconic Godzilla roar that shook the seats and that’s not in a 4DX screen!
The 3D looks good and has a good use of depth, but it the size of the screen and the sound that did it for me, Godzilla King of the Monsters was a fun ride, it’s what I’ve been waiting for over the years, the King kicking ass and showing what he is made off, this is an all-out monster of a movie and I loved it!
What made the movie even more special for me, being a fan of Godzilla, was the moment that Akira Ifukube’s Godzilla theme starting playing, that cemented it for me that this IS a Godzilla movie it perfectly slotted in with Bear McCreary stunning soundtrack for the movie.
So now after this rollercoaster ride of a movie, now all we have to do is wait until March 202 for the anticipated Godzilla vs. Kong!
