Hey there film fans, it’s time for another film review and today I’m bringing you a review of the paranormal comedy, DEAD.
Marbles, a hapless stoner, can see ghosts. Tagg, a recently dead wannabe super-cop, needs to find a serial killer. Can a critical ghost cop and a directionless stoner get over their prejudices and work together to save lives – and deaths?
So this is the second film from New Zealand that I’ve brought you a review of recently, and this one was written by and stars Thomas Sainsbury who we last saw in the brilliant Alien Addiction, much like that one there is some drug usage in this one as well, but this time they cause Marbles (Thomas Sainsbury) the ability to talk to the dead!
The comedy factor in DEAD is much like a buddy movie as Marbles and Tagg (Hayden J. Weal) try to find out the murder of the seven victims including Tagg, as they delve into the crimes we are brought a revelation on who the killer of the men is and why they are killing them, which is a nice twist to the story.
DEAD has it’s funny moments and is a worthwhile watch for a film that has that paranormal twist that is somewhat comedic look at what would happen in the circumstances. There were moments when I did laugh loudly, I did lough the few twists that were thrown in to the mix and it’s an enjoyable film to watch, it’s such a refreshing change from all the Hollywood blockbusters and with the lockdown we are currently going through, streaming is a great way to discover the films that we may not have seen on the big screens.
I enjoyed the writing from Thomas Sainsbury & Hayden J. Weal and Weal’s directing has brought the story to the screen nicely. If you want to check out a murder mystery that has a paranormal twist then give DEAD a try.
