It’s time to get your creep back on as Jeepers Creepers: Reborn – the brand-new horror reboot of one of the most iconic horror franchises of the century – is set to strike fear into a new generation when it gets its UK premiere this September from 101 Films.
I have to say that when I first heard about the reboot of the Jeepers Creepers franchise I was really looking forward to seeing a return of the Creeper in what was described as a “wickedly demonic gorefest” from Timo Vuorensola (Iron Sky), the trailer and stills from the movie did look very promising.
The reboot opens up with a homage to the original movie and at first, it looks like this new incarnation of the story will be a remake of the 2001 movie with nice cameos from Dee Wallace and Gary Graham, but no we are brought something different as it appears that the 2001 incident was an urban myth of sorts, there is even a moment that this film pokes fun at the original and this version with regards to reboots!

Jeepers Creepers Reborn has a backdrop of the Horror Hound festival an event that is big with horror fans and it’s coming to Louisiana for the very first time – the excitement is immense. Fans of the event and of “The Creeper” travel far and wide to attend this event, but this time the Creeper is going to make an appearance for real!
Chase (Imran Adams – Hollyoaks, Ghosts), a lovable geek, is one such fan. He can’t wait to go to the event and has grabbed himself some tickets and is taking along his devoted girlfriend Laine (Sydney Craven – EastEnders, A Christmas Carol), who has even more exciting news she’s waiting to share with him.

But as the festival approaches, Laine experiences disturbing premonitions involving the town’s terrifying past … and can’t shake the feeling that something evil is coming.

As the festival kicks off and blood-soaked entertainment builds to a frenzy, are Laine and Chase ready to face the legend of the Creeper, in a brand-new horror attraction? Or could Laine’s fears be about to come true – is one of the most wicked demons ever set to wreak havoc, death and devastation on the unsuspecting crowds?
The pair must prepare to fight for their lives as they realise their worst nightmare has come true as Jeepers Creepers is Reborn.
As I mentioned earlier I was very excited when the news came along that the Creeper was making a return, with the movie having a new director and the film taking the “requel” it looked promising that we would get something fresh and scary are the last two movies in the franchise, but sadly I was mistaken!
The movie just didn’t have that unnerving feeling that the very first had, now that one had the hairs on the back of my neck standing to attention when I first saw it in my local cinema, Jeepers Creepers Reborn on the other hand just seems to be rather stagnant when it comes to the fear factor, yes it has some gory moments that may appeal to those that love a bit of “hack and slash”, but for me, the film really just didn’t seem to do much for me when it came to the horror genre.

I didn’t enjoy the characters that much and found most of them rather annoying, the idea of the Cult of the Creeper seemed to be something that may have been able to bring a little more to the legend of the character but sadly it didn’t.
But what about the Creeper itself, sorry guys but it really didn’t feel menacing as it did in the first movie, the rebirth sequence was OK, but I felt left wanting more.
Sadly this sequel/requel isn’t going to be one that we can all scream and shout about for the right reason, maybe it’s a sign that the Creeper now needs to be lain to rest and the horror of the character can become a distant memory of the fear that it once could bestow on the viewer.
Jeepers Creepers Reborn is released on digital, Blu-ray and DVD on 10 October 2022
