Through the pages of this book, we accompany John on his journey from the safety of Kokomo, Indiana, the city he called home, through the world of drugs and prostitution in Chicago and his days in prison in America to an ashram in India where he meets Aanya, his soulmate from a previous life, to finally discovering his destiny as an Asanga.

THE AUTHOR

Douglas W. Davis is a writer, father, husband and a constant spiritual seeker. He has a passion for Eastern and Western religions, particularly how they are intertwined. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California with his family and his two poodles. His lifelong goal is to unite all religious and spiritual seekers by revealing they all stem from the same tree.   

What inspired you to write this book?

I was inspired by writers like Carlos Castaneda, Paolo Coelho and others to write a spiritual book that is fun to read.  

Can you tell me about the book? 

Yoga A Love Story” by Douglas Davis, tells a quintessentially human story of one man’s search for resonance and love.  The protagonist, John Yogacara Asanga, struggles with being a half Indian and half white male in rural Indiana. His search to belong leads him to Chicago where he becomes part of a notorious Black South Side gang simply because they accept him. He learns there is an integrity to gang life and surviving in the inner city. Eventually, the gang’s criminal activity leads to jail time for him. He agrees to testify and accepts witness protection – only not in the US. But in India.

In India, his spiritual journey truly begins. He encounters angels, demons, shapeshifting tigers, and breathtaking vistas, while travelling through the amazing Kaziranga jungle.  Once he learns the true meaning of Yoga – a union with God, he finds a love of himself, others and the love of his life. The story is replete with mystical, magic details tied together with romance. From Indiana to the center of the earth and back, Yoga A Love Story takes one on an enthralling journey that will open audiences to the secrets of yoga, the universe and of love and life.    

What did you learn when writing the book? 

I learned about the many similarities between most religions and that India is a diverse and beautiful country. 

What surprised you the most? 

The rich and diverse history of India and its connection to spirituality. 

What does the title mean? 

Yoga, A  Love Story is a love letter to the practice of Yoga and the beauty of romance.

Was the character inspired by a real person?  

The characters are an amalgam of the many people I have called friends and acquaintances during my life. 

If so, who?  

A gentleman never kisses and tells.

What do you think happened to the characters after the book ended?  

I think they lived happily ever after until their child became a teenager and a new adventure started.
