Yes, you guessed I’ve been to the movies and a childhood favourite of mine has been brought to the big screen Tintin with his trusted companion Snowy the dog!
Who Is Tintin?
For those who have no idea about Tintin, then let me give you a little bit of a rough guide, Tintin first appeared back in 1929 in a Belgian newspaper and was brought to life by Georges Rémi or as we know him Hergé.
So Tintin himself is a Belgian reporter that has a knack for solving crimes and capers with his dog Snowy, slightly drunk Captain Haddock and the quite comical Thomson and Thompson.
Bringing Tintin To The Big Screen
Now in the 21st century Stephen Spielberg and Peter Jackson have brought Tintin to life in the form of a 3D CGI Movie, but keeping with the original character designs and time from the book, we get an adventure film very much like Indiana Jones as Tintin (Jamie Bell), Snowy and Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) set off on an adventure to find a lost treasure that once belonged to Captain Haddock’s ancestor.
Keeping an eye on their adventure is the evil Ivanovich Sakharine (Daniel Craig) who is also after the treasure and so the race is on to find The Secret Of The Unicorn and its treasure.
Tintin: Action, Adventure and Comedy in 3D
I do have to say that I wasn’t too sure how Tintin would work in CGI, but the characters have been brought to the screen without losing too much of their charm from the original book, we even get an artist drawing Tintin at the beginning of the movie and it’s the character from the books, which is a nice touch.
As I mentioned earlier, the film is very much like Indiana Jones with is chases, action and some wonderfully over the top set pieces that are just brilliant.
Thomson (Nick Frost) and Thompson (Simon Pegg)  are nicely done as well, with their comedic repertoire, though I would like to have seen a little more of them.
Snowy, Tintin’s trusted companion, is wonderfully done and you really fall in love with his reactions to situations and his antics.
The use of 3D is nicely done with it being worked in to very well, though a couple of points where it’s just blatant usage of 3D, Ivanovich pointing his cane into the audience, besides that, the sequences such as the chase for the clues through a city on a motorbike is brilliant.
Overall Thoughts On The Adventures Of Tintin
Even if you’re not a fan of Tintin, this is a fun movie to watch, it’s an enjoyable night out, the CGI is perfect for the film, especially on the Sony 4K system @ApolloCinemas, with the characters being done very well, Tintin is a fun film for both kids and adults of any age 😉

Here’s hoping that the next two sequels are going to be this good if not better.
