It’s been well over a decade since we were first treated with one of the most visually stunning and technological movies from James Cameron and now we finally get Avatar The Way of Water in IMAX 3D, we checked it out for our review of the movie.
“Avatar The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
One of the many things that stood out with the first movie was the vibrance of the screen and the clarity of the 3D, I recently checked out the remastered IMAX 3D release of the first movie that was stunning, so the new film with a much longer run time had to be something special even to equal the first film, but I have to say that from the moment Avatar Way of Water starts in IMAX 3D it looks gorgeous and not only that the IMAX sound pounds through the speakers taking you on another stunning journey to Pandora.
This long-awaited sequel certainly has more action sequences than its predecessor, it’s great to see (or should that be heard) many of the cast returning to the sequel, including Stephen Lang after his demise in the first film and a nice touch with Sigourney Weaver not only reprising her role but also playing a new part of Kiri.
There is so much more to Kiri that is left open for us with the next run of Avatar movies that we will be getting every two years up until 2028, so I’m really looking forward to finding out more about the character that is indeed surrounded by some mystery.
Avatar The Way of Water takes us on a journey to see more of Pandora and we are introduced to the Na’vi clan, The Metkayina, that lives on the reefs of Pandora. They are a peace-loving clan that Jake and his family bring his war two as they try to keep their clan safe from humans that are yet again trying to make Pandora their own.
But with an old enemy returning to hunt Jake (Sam Worthington) down, it’s time for the tribes to unite to save all Na’vi.
Be prepared for packs of action, IMAX 3D that really makes you feel like you are on Pandora, the sound that you not only hear but feel from the amazing IMAX sound system and also be ready for moments that will touch your emotions and maybe you will find a lone tear rolling down your cheek like I did a couple of times.
I went in to see the film with an open mind and was hoping that after seeing the remastered IMAX 3D of the first film not long ago and hoped that Avatar Way of the Water in IMAX 3D wouldn’t disappoint me and thankfully it didn’t, there was not one moment that I found myself feeling that the film was dragging, yes it’s 192 minutes long but it really didn’t feel like it. It’s a film that was just so gorgeous to watch, it’s no wonder that James Cameron took so long to bring us the sequel, the look of the underwater scenes are amazing to watch as sea creatures swim around in crystal clear 3D.
The first Avatar was nominated for nine Academy Awards® and, this time round, IMAX has worked closely with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment to ensure IMAX cinemas are ready for the grand return to Pandora – and that the IMAX versioning of the film will make the absolute best use of the IMAX technology.
The original release of Avatar is the highest-grossing movie to ever grace an IMAX screen despite having approximately 300 cinemas worldwide in 2009 compared to over 1,500 cinemas today.
