Backtrace Review: Sly Stallone is Worth a Watch

There seems to be a lot of the big names heading to the VOD releases these days and Backtrace is no exception as Sylvester Stallone (Bullet to the Head), Ryan Guzman and Matthew Modine star in this new movie that is heading to Digital HD 7th January 2019 and DVD 14th January 2019.

Backtrace Review on Blazing Minds

Backtrace is certainly a movie that had me glued to from start to finish, with it opening with all guns blasting with Mathew Modine in a shootout when a heist goes wrong and then moving along with the introduction of Stallone character with the heart-pounding opening soundtrack.

Seven years later we catch up with MacDonald (Matthew Modine) who is now suffering from a brain injury from the ill-fated bank robbery that went south.

Backtrace (Matthew Modine) - Blazing Minds Review

After MacDonald’s seventh year evaluation, he is persuaded by a fellow inmate (Ryan Guzman) and a ward doctor (Meadow Williams) to break out of prison and is injected with a serum that forces him to relive the life he’s forgotten about.

It’s now down to MacDonald to elude a local detective (Sylvester Stallone), a toughened FBI agent (Christopher McDonald) and the drug’s dangerous side effects in order to recover the stolen money all while confronting his past.

Backtrace is interesting viewing, it has some plot flaws, but they aren’t something that really puts you off the movie and unlike some other straight to home releases, Backtrace has some good screen time for Sylvester Stallone and you can feel his presence on the screen when his parts come on.

Backtrace Review on Blazing Minds

The movie may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but with the great list of names that Backtrace has got including action legend and three-time Academy Award® nominee Sylvester Stallone (including Best Actor, Rocky, 1976) co-stars with Ryan Guzman (TV’s Pretty Little Liars, Notorious), Meadow Williams (Reach Me, The Intruders), Christopher McDonald (Quiz Show, Terminal Velocity) and Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, Stranger Things) the film is certainly one to check out and although its action-packed start it does falter slightly on the lack of action later in the film and sticks more with the drama genre.

Backtrace is out on Digital HD 7th January 2019 and DVD 14th January 2019.
