In the light of the pandemic and the reduced workflow, it’s been hard times for us all but recently we moved away from Patreon and GoFundMe and opted to use the new site Buy Me a Coffee.
Many of you may have seen the tweets on the Blazing Minds Twitter account mentioning the new site that can help supporting creators such as bloggers, writers, artists, filmmakers and so much more.
What makes it even better with Buy Me A Coffee is that not only is the site free to sign up to, the rates are fantastic when getting paid and they are damn quick at being paid as well. Let’s face it there’s nothing worse than hanging around waiting for that payment to go through and with Buy Me A Coffee there are several payment options, but more on that later.
Signing up to Buy Me A Coffee
Now that the easy part, all you have to do is visit the site and create your account by choosing your username, this can be anything you wish, then click “Start My Page”.
Once you have signed in you have some amazing options that you can use to make your page your own, you can upload your own header banner, logo and image for the members’ section as well as adding your information for your potential coffee buyers.
Setting up your payment options
To get coffees bought for you, you will need to head to your settings where you will be able to select your payment method at the moment Buy ME A Coffee allows you to use PayPal and Stripe, I would really recommend you use both of these options to allow people to have more of a choice when buying you a coffee.
Once that is set up, make sure you page settings are ready for your supporters to buy you a coffee and set a default price from £1 to £5, add your thank you message and set you goal (if you wish).
So there you go, you are now ready to allow people to show their support for your work with a coffee purchase. I did mention “members” earlier in this post, now this is a fantastic option that is great to build up recurring payments from members that you can also give special treatment to.
Buy Me A Coffee Members
I love this option on the site and you can use it to not only email your “ViPs” but when making posts on your page you can allow members only posts so that they are getting something a little more special.

As you can see from the image above when you post on Buy Me A Coffee for only Supporters/Members then are not available to everyone, this is great for that exclusive news for those that have bought you a coffee, you can also use the same technique for emailing your supporters/members.
Give Out Some Extras
Something else that is fantastic for those that are authors/artists using the site is the option of extras, this is the chance to offer something “extra” to those supporting you, you can add anything you want, it could be some artwork that you have produced in limited amounts to even downloading that new eBook you may have written.

Need a widget for your website that you can also design one via the site, change the colours, add your supporter count and even create a floating widget on your site.
I highly recommend Buy Me A Coffee, I’ve had more success with it over the likes of Patreon, the rates are good and they don’t charge a monthly fee. All features including publishing and emails are free for everyone.
Buy Me A Coffee charges a 5% transaction fee, and creators keep 95% of the earnings. They make money only when you do. They’ll never show ads and they’ll never sell your data.
So stop by and create your page today.
