The 2021 On the Trail of UFOs: Dark Sky is another fascinating documentary from Seth Breedlove and Small Town Monsters. It features Shannon Legro, Susan Sheppard, Kenneth Scheuvront, Matt Welsh, Steve Hummel, Ron Lanham, Joe Perdue, Dave Roberts, Lewis, Janet, Heather Moser, Mark Matzke, Les O’Dell, Andrew Smith, Matthew Schang, Mark Muncy, William Wallace, and Seth Breedlove. It’s narrated by Shannon Legro, with music by Brandon Dalo, and special effects by Santino Vitale.
This film is absolutely fantastic. For thousands of years, people have been seeing strange flying objects in the sky. Whether it’s UFOs or UAP, the truth is undeniable. Something is definitely going on up there and the more we refuse to sit by and accept what we’re told, the better chance there is for the truth to come the light.
In this impressive addition to the STM catalogue, Shannon, Seth, and the rest of the crew headed to Appalachia in hopes of digging deeper into the ufological lore surrounding the legendary wave of sightings that exploded in the area in the 1960s. As they looked to piece it all together and get a glimpse of the bigger picture at hand and hopefully narrow down the answers as to what’s going on, it was nice to finally see some attention and importance paid to the essential work conducted by the legendary journalists’ John Keel, Gray Barker. From the Men In Black sightings to the Flatwoods Monster, to the Mothman reports and everything in between, this film has it all.
What people don’t realize about the flap from ‘66-‘67, is that aside from a few accounts of monsters and strange men in dark suits, the skies were alive and active and there were more reports of unidentified flying objects than anything else. Of course, most of those took a back seat to the infamous monster reports and Woody Derenberger and his run-ins with the man known as Indrid Cold.
If what’s being witnessed is indeed visitors from another planet, then why are they here? What are they looking for? Are they descending from high above, or are they coming from deep within the earth? Are they looking to gather resources and tap into our power sources, or is there something even more sinister at hand? Those are a few of the brilliant questions posed and tackled within this film.
The cinematography is incredible and the camerawork is solid. It’s arguably the best looking film from Small Town Monsters to date, in terms of aesthetics and overall visual quality. The editing is great and the special effects are extraordinary. As always the music is outstanding and the pacing is perfect. I was kind of hoping it wouldn’t end, although I knew it had to eventually.
When it comes to documentaries about the supernatural and occult, you’d be hard-pressed to find anything as good as this. It’s a nearly perfect film. However, while there were a few previously undocumented accounts, I felt the majority of the subject matter barely broke the surface. Your average amateur armchair detective or cryptozoologist has probably stumbled across most of the information contained within, at some point in their research. There were also a few left out things, but nothing that took anything away from the superbly polished product.
On the Trail of UFOs: Dark Sky is thrilling, compelling and absolutely brilliant. It’s gripping, powerful, and downright spooky. A real treat for those searching for answers about what’s happening in our skies. STM continues to break the mould and lead the way when it comes to documentaries on the paranormal. This is a must-see for monster lovers and cryptic chasers. I highly recommend you check this one out when you get the chance.
