The Death of Superman Part 1
Those of you that read Blazing Minds on a regular basis will have seen several articles on DC Animated movies and now that The Death of Superman has been released on Blu-ray you just know that we had to check out the animated movie.
First of all, I have to mention that this is part one of the story, The Death of Superman brings us the build up and battle with Doomsday and the inevitable downfall of the Man of Steel. This animated movie is on par with many of the previous animated DC movies with some amazing animation, set pieces and a rollercoaster ride of action sequences that see the Justice League fighting to defend Earth from Doomsday, including Batman and Wonder Woman.
Many of you will know of the previous release of the story of Doomsday when DC Universe Movies series released Superman Doomsday which was an abridged version of “The Death Of Superman,” DC Comics’ landmark 1992-93 comic phenomenon. But with a runtime of 72 minutes, the film focused on a core, singular storyline. This new, animated The Death of Superman, restores many of the moments and characters that fans hold dear to their hearts of the fans of the comic book. Even with some extras thrown in.
The Blu-ray release is crystal clear with vibrant colours, crisp lines and a great use of the 5.1 surround sound, which really comes into action with the battle scenes and Superman and the Justice League try to save the Earth from annihilation, this is an animated movie that not only looks good, it sounds good as well, the DD 5.1 sound mix is used very well throughout the movie, with the action sequences having sound that throws you in the middle of the action.
The Death of Superman also has a stellar cast to bring the characters to life on the screen including Jerry O’Connell (Crossing Jordan, Stand By Me), Rebecca Romijn (X-Men, The Librarians) and Rainn Wilson (The Office) as the voices of Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. They are joined by the DC Universe Movies’ returning voices of the Justice League: Jason O’Mara (The Man in High Castle, Terra Nova) as Batman, Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Rent, Daredevil) as Wonder Woman, Shemar Moore (S.W.A.T., Criminal Minds) as Cyborg, Nathan Fillion (Castle, ABC’s upcoming The Rookie) as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan, and Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs, Ugly Betty) as The Flash.
