In the movie Do You See Me, a woman is stalked by a monstrous clown who seems to know her every move and she quickly realises her life is in danger. 

This is low-budget, cornball, stalker horror at its finest. In the vein of so many of these kinds of films before this has some real positives that override many of the negatives. One of the joys of a film like this is its simplicity. Not a huge amount happens, but when it does, and you get the jump scares etc. it’s all pretty effective. 

It does need to be noted though that when you look at this from a technical viewpoint this is not a good film. No one is ever going to use this as an example of masterpiece movie-making. That being said this is also way above the worst of this kind I’ve ever watched. I genuinely felt some moments of tension and felt that most of the jump scares were justified, unlike some other films that try to shoehorn them in to hit some kind of target. 

When a film starts with someone bound on a table and having their face sliced off, which is then held up, you know you’re in for an interesting time. Funnily enough, this is really the only main moment of gore within the whole film. While it is a horror film the terror the main character faces is more on the psychological side than physical. Imagine getting random messages from an unknown number, and then almost immediately seeing a psycho clown who quickly disappears…. 

The performances in this are on par with every other film of this ilk. They aren’t going to win any major awards but they are, for the most part, not unreasonable. Rya Meyers, as Emily, makes for a pretty sound Scream Queen. It’s interesting watching her slowly descend into a kind of desperation as the messages come, and she sees the clown appear and ‘gifts’ being left for her. 

Overall, I enjoyed this film and I was absolutely able to accept it for what it was. A psycho clown stalker and the scream queen he’s going out of his way to terrify? Who doesn’t love stuff like that….

For what it is it’s getting a 2.5/5….It’s definitely worth a watch if schlocky stalker horrors are your thing.
