With lockdown restrictions starting to ease the legendary London and Essex nightclub Faces will be preparing to reopen its doors on Saturday the 22nd May 2021 where it will be unveiling its transformational refurbishment. To celebrate the reopening I got a chance to ask legendary club owner, John Clark a few question about what we can expect from the new Faces including some of the new events which have been introduced such as the Brunch Club: Evening brunch.
Following a transformational refurbishment, which was set to launch in April last year, before the pandemic struck, the new-look Faces is guaranteed to impress with their grand re-opening and the introduction of their new day and night brunch menus.
Q. With lockdown restrictions now starting to ease you can finally open the doors to the refurbished Faces. Can you tell us what sort of changes we can now expect to see from the venue?
A. The premises have undergone a complete refurbishment with a budget spend of over £1m. Customers who have visited us before will notice a vast change in how the venue looks. We have refurbished every decade and this one was our biggest yet. A brand new KV2 sound system, laser, cutting edge lighting system and video walls all helping to create the unrivalled Faces atmosphere.
Q. Faces was initially planning to reopen in April 2020, but the grand launch was obviously cancelled due to COVID restrictions. Although the club has faced many challenges over the year did you ever start to question whether the doors would open again?
A. Quite simply no. Hospitality has always been a huge aspect of not just the UK economy, but worldwide, and whilst we were one of the last to open, we had faith that our doors would open again, and we would welcome our customers once more – for the ultimate faces experience.
Q. Having another year to plan before reopening, did you make any further changes to the club or how you would operate events to operate within the COVID requirements?
A. We followed Covid restrictions and the updates from the government closely. Whenever new restrictions came into place we updated the venue immediately. In terms of spacing tables out, setting a policy on how the venue would operate during COVID, buying hand gel dispensers, and beefing up our cleaning regime to ensure when we could open, customers are enjoying themselves in a virus free environment.
Q. To coincide with the new look launch, you are introducing some creative events including a Brunch Club: Evening brunch, Pancakes & Pornstars and a ‘Hidden Brunch’. How did these concepts come about?
A. We have always kept an eye on current trends. One of which we noticed was afternoon brunch events, a single cost 2 hour eat and drink as much as you can event generally starting around 1pm till around 3pm. Leaving everyone on a high but “nowhere to go and carry on the party”!!! Our ethos has been to move this style of event to later in the day, starting 6pm add a sprinkle of Faces entertainment and then allow the brunches to stay on for the Faces experience till the early hours.
Q. Do you have any other planned events which we can look forward to?
A. We have also introduced some Sunday day time events in partnership with well-known operators Hidden Brunch events from Dubai, Culture Parties, Garage nation to mention just a few.

Q. Faces has continued to maintain its reputation as one of London and Essex’s most popular venues, attracting several well-known celebrity faces. It is therefore not too surprising that recently announced events such as Culture Parties on 23rd May is already sold out. What is it about Faces that has helped it to remain such a popular venue?
A. As the name Faces would suggest it’s the right people or “FACES” that ultimately make the night the best in town. We offer a specific style of venue service and entertainment which attracts the right “Faces”.
Q. Having been owner of the club for 30 years you have seen the club continue to evolve to make sure it remains one step ahead. Do you have any other new plans for the club later in the year?
A. Hopefully most restrictions will be lifted on the 21st June. Fingers crossed!!! Watch this space.
