Ted (Efron): handsome, smart, charismatic, affectionate. Liz (Collins): a single mother, cautious, but smitten. A picture of domestic bliss, the two seem to have it all figured out until Ted is arrested and charged with a series of increasingly grisly murders. As concern turns to paranoia, Liz is forced to consider how well she knows the man she shares a life with and, as the evidence piles up, decide if Ted is truly a victim or guilty as charged.

Ted Bundy
Director Joe Berlinger (PARADISE LOST) has certainly put out a film that doesn’t glorify the horrible murders that Bundy committed, but instead, brings us the story of Bundy being arrested and then claiming his innocence through Liz’s story, it’s certainly a fascinating film to watch from another point of view.
Zac Efron seems to be perfectly cast as Ted Bundy and there is an uncanny resemblance to him, he portrays the serial killer very well and keeps the unnerving feel of Bundy throughout the film.
The rest of the cast also works well in this production based on the based Elizabeth Kendall’s book “The Phantom Prince: My Life with Ted Bundy“, the film also stars Kaya Scodelario (THE MAZE RUNNER trilogy) as Carole Anne Boone, Haley Joel Osment (THE SIXTH SENSE) as Liz’s Co-Worker Jerry, Angela Sarafyan (WESTWORLD) as Joanna, Jim Parsons (TV’s THE BIG BANG THEORY) as Florida Prosecutor Larry Simpson and John Malkovich (DEEPWATER HORIZON) as Judge Edward D. Cowart.
I found myself glued to the movie from start to finish, thankfully there aren’t any really gory scenes to take you away from the story from Liz’s perspective, even the court scenes with the evidence against Bundy is subtly done, with the photo evidence only showing items found at the crime scenes.
This is a fascinating movie that is certainly worth a watch and brings a fresh look at Bundy and his court case all from a different point of view.
EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE has been released in UK cinemas and on Sky Cinema. and is heading to Download and DVD on 9 September 2019.
