A bit of movie news for you today as The Electric Shadow Company has released the first image from its film adaptation of Stephen Fry’s best-selling novel ‘The Hippopotamus’.
Heading the cast is comic genius Roger Allam (Tamara Drewe, The Thick of It, The Lady in the van) joining him in the movie are acclaimed actors Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, The Dark Knight Rises, Transporter 2), Tim McInnerny (Black Adder, Notting Hill, Eddie the Eagle), Geraldine Somerville (The Riot Club, The Harry Potter series), Emily Berrington (Humans, The Inbetweeners 2) and Fiona Shaw (True Blood, The Harry Potter series).
Stephen Fry’s The Hippopotamus Comes To The Big Screen
The best-selling novel ‘The Hippopotamus’ was written by British actor, comedian, writer and television personality Stephen Fry, it’s sold over five hundred thousand copies upon its release in 1994 and has since been translated into fourteen languages. The screenplay for Electric Shadow’s adaptation has been written by theatre director and writer Blanche McIntyre and Tom Hodgson (writer of Seve, the 2014 biopic of Seve Ballesteros).
Directed by talented British director John Jencks (The Fold), ‘The Hippopotamus‘ feature film, , is the first ever adaptation of a Stephen Fry novel for the big screen and has the potential to reach a strong international audience, fuelling an ever-increasing demand, overseas and domestically, for uplifting British content.
The film is currently being filmed in London and High Wycombe, ‘The Hippopotamus’ is the story of disgraced poet Ted Wallace (Roger Allam) who is summoned to his friend Lord Logan’s (Matthew Modine) country manor (the fictional Swafford Hall), to investigate a series of unexplained miracle healings.
Alexa Seligman and Jay Taylor, the producers of the movie, have worked tirelessly to bring this raucous British comedy project to the big screen. Alexa Seligman commented: “It is an honour to bring to the screen this beast of a comedy, penned by one of the icons of modern British culture.”
‘The Hippopotamus’ is scheduled to be released in the UK by Metrodome UKÂ in October 2016.
