Now most of you that read my blog will know that when it comes to Hollywood making remakes, I do have tendency to frown on them, original versions of the films are usually the best!
Footloose An Exception To The Rule
So last night I got the chance to see a premier of the remake of Footloose at the Apollo Cinema in Rhyl. I went in with an open mind and my feelings of re-makes, but these were soon brushed away when the movie started and we heard the Footloose theme, which was an upbeat version of the Kenny Loggins track performed by Blake Shelton.
I wasn’t to sure how the story would work in this modern age, the idea that a God-fearing community would ban loud music and dancing due to a tragic accident three years earlier where the towns reverend, Shaw Moore’s (Dennis Quaid) son died.
But it does work, compared to the original version the remake of Footloose seems more lively, with a few laughs in place to bring a smile to your face and yet the movie still flows surprisingly well.
Footloose Gets Your Toes Tapping!
The movie has a brilliant soundtrack with some great tracks that will get your toes tapping, I know mine were throughout the movie and the dancing sequence are far, far better than those in the Kevin Bacon version, it all seems so nicely polished and a joy to watch.
Don’t get me wrong I did like the original Footloose, but this version is more enjoyable to watch Kenny Wormald who plays Ren McComack does a brilliant job as the new kid to the town that brings the town back to its feet (no pun intended).
Is This A Remake Worth Seeing?
I’m going to surprise you here and say, YES, that’s something I don’t usually say, but Footloose is such an enjoyable film to watch, after seeing Shark Night 3D the other night I was hoping that Footloose would put my faith back in to Hollywood and it did. Being a Sci Fi fan it was so nice to see a movie which is really out of my comfort zone and really enjoy it.
So my rating for Footloose is 8/10. It’s a fun, toe tapping and a brilliant night out for those that have seen the 1984 version and for those that haven’t.
