Gravity has been a film I’ve really been waiting for, you may have seen in have previously posted severely articles about the film prior to its release when I posted George Clooney’s character poster and the detached and drifting videos.
Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiralling out into the blackness.
The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. “Gravity” was written by Alfonso Cuarón & Jonás Cuarón, and produced by Alfonso Cuarón and David Heyman (the “Harry Potter” films). Gravity, You’ll Be On The Edge Of Your Seat
I’ve seen the expression “You’ll be on the edge of your seat” used on many films and to be honest, not many have been able to stand by the comment, but Gravity can, right from the very start of the movie I was transfixed to the 3D screen with an awe of the wonders of space.
The 3D is used to full effect to not only have things flying out of the screen, but it gives you the giddy feeling of being miles above mother Earth with the crew of the ill-fated space shuttle.
One thing that really has to be said about Gravity is it is visual stunning and there are many films I say that about, I think the last one was Life of Pi, even though we are in the darkness of space, Gravity is still stunning, the overall feel of the visual has you gasping for breath very much like the characters.
I’m not sure if I like calling the film Sci-Fi, yes it is based in space, but for me it is an all out drama, the connection between Bullock and Clooney is superb as they attempt to survive the cataclysmic event that has put them in this terrifying situation.
Gravity is certainly a Sci-Fi Drama is a movie that has you taking each gulp of your own breath in anticipation of what will happen next, you start to feel for the characters and particularly for Bullock where anything and everything is going wrong.
Maybe not a film for the younger generations of movie goers for but those of us that have a staple diet of movies and remember how a good film was made will love Gravity.
With the mention of Stone’s (Bullock) loss of her child earlier in the movie, you can see why she has a certainly outlook on life and why her survival instincts may not be what they should be, why would you want to survive if you have nothing to go back to.
But she changes and those survival instincts grow as the movie moves along at a great pace and it keeps you glued to the screen for the simple reason that you have start gunning for her survival.
For me Gravity was a complete joy to watch, the visual effects are stunning, the soundtrack was perfectly suited to the atmosphere of the film and Sandra Bullock and George Clooney did an exceptional job.
I really can’t praise the film enough. The small screen will not do this film justice, go and see it on the big screen in 3D.
