Many have said that Life Of Pi was the book that couldn’t be made in to a film, but Ang Lee has proved them wrong with his adaptation of the book.
Pi lives with his family in India and they run a zoo, there comes a time when the family have to move the zoo and sell the animals, so off they go on a ship to Canada, but soon everything goes terrible wrong as a storm hits.
Pi finds himself on a life boat with a Bengal Tiger for a companion and this is where his rather fantastical story movies in to a fight for survival against the elements and the Bengal Tiger.
Life Of Pi – Blazing Minds Film Review
Where do I start with this review of Life Of Pi, for starters the film starts with some gorgeous 3D scenes of animals and an amazing Indian music soundtrack.
With an older Pi telling his story of his family and their life before the disaster that changes his life.
I think the best way of describing Life Of Pi is that it’s visually stunning, the 3D works extremely well, at one point the screen has a slight ratio change to bring in a top and bottom black bar on the screen.
But this is done for a reason, the scene had flying fish shooting over the life boat and by giving the screen the bars, it allows the fish to give you the effect of coming of the screen even more, superb.
Not only does the 3D work in the film extremely well, but the overall feel with its cinematography and use of colour in scenes of an otherwise grey ocean is superb, even some of the fades from one scene to another are so nicely done.
As the film moves along you feel for Pi in his predicament and you can’t but help fall in love with the Bengal Tiger, which is lovingly crafted in CGI, showing that CGI can be used in the right way.
Overall Thoughts For Life Of Pi
Visually stunning, emotional and pleasing on the eyes, mind and ears. Life Of Pi is a superb film, it doesn’t happen very often that a film comes along that is such a pleasure to watch and this is one of them. Ang Lee has done a superb job and certainly put my faith back in Hollywood producing original films from amazing novels.
