So after last weeks terrible “Fun Size”, I was hoping that this weeks film to review would be so much better and funnier, so I took my seat and waited for “Here Comes The Boom” to start.

Here Comes The Boom –Â One teacher still believes in fighting for his students
This was one of those films that I hadn’t seen trailers for or even heard much about to, all I really knew is that it starred Kevin James and Henry Winkler (yes folks the Fonz himself), so I was quite intrigued to see how this one played out.
Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a biology teacher who has to take on a new role as he becomes a Mixed Martial Arts fighter (MMA) to raise money in an attempt to stop the school from cancelling music classes and other  extra-curricular activities and in turn music teacher Marty Streb (Henry Winkler) from loosing his job.
What we get from Here Comes The Boom is the story of the underdog rising up the ladder to become the savior of the school, there are plenty of laughs throughout the film to keep you chuckle muscles working between some of the more serious heart-felt moments and they all work well together.

Now I’m not one for MMA, so I wasn’t in the know until talking to a friend but one of the key characters in the film Niko is played by retired MMA fighter Bas Rutten, in which case I liked him even better in the film, he never takes himself serious and is a funny partner to Kevin James in the film.
Ok so it’s not really that believable that the main character would be able to get through the fights, but it’s all fun, it’s one of those feel good movies that does work and after seeing the feel you do have a feeling of something good has been accomplished.

With some nice characters parts by the likes of Salma Heyak and Reggie Lee, the film is fun, not one the funniest comedies you’ll have seen, but, it is one that has enough gags throughout the film to keep you interested and enjoying it.
One thing that I did keep thinking during the film though was Real Steel, now I’m not sure if this was because the story line of the film reminded me a little of it with the triumphant underdog or whether it was down to something else, who knows, who cares!
Overall Thoughts For Here Comes The Boom
An enjoyable comedy with a great cast, a film that has you rooting for the characters throughout and one which is quite enjoyable to watch, go see this if you like Kevin James, MMA or you just need to give those chuckle muscles a bit of a work out.
