So last night was my movie night at the Rhyl Apollo Cinema and I got the chance to see Immortals 3D, a movie which I’ve been dying to see for some time and one which was on my list of movies I can’t wait to see.
Those of you that do read my movie reviews will know how much I enjoy films in 3D and so this is one of the reasons I opted to see the 3D version of Immortals rather than the 2D version and to be honest, I’m glad I did.
Immortals 3D – Gods vs Titans
Theseus (Henry Cavill) a mortal man is chosen by Zeus (Luke Evans) and trained to be ready for the fight against a bloodthirsty tyrant, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) who is on a quest across Greece to find the mythical bow that can release the Titans and destroy all of mankind.
And so the bloody battles and fights ensue in glorious 3D, which I do have to say is do extremely well, a lot of the fight scenes have a slow-motion effect that works very well with the 3D and the blood spurts do feel like they are going to hit you in the face.
An Ancient World Recreated
The scenery is really amazing in Immortals from the Theseus’ home built into a cliff face to the walls guarding the mounting where the Titans are imprisoned, which did remind me a little of Helms Deep from Lord Of The Rings 😉
Ok this “sword and sandal” movie isn’t going to be to every ones liking and those that did like 300, will certainly like this, as this does some to flow slightly better than 300, but I’m in two minds whether it’s better or not, may just have to go back to 300 for another viewing 😉
Henry Cavill (who is also going to be the new Superman) is good as Theseus and his fight scenes are well done, John Hurt as the “old man” is very distinctive in his short parts in the film, but nicely done all the same. Mickey Rourke kind of reminds me of the Marv character he played in Sin City, but he does suit the part of King Hyperion.
Overall Thoughts Of Immortals
For me I thoroughly enjoyed Immortals, it’s packed with action, though sometimes a bit bloodthirsty, I think it’s just passed it’s 15 certificate due to that. Â But if you are looking for a fun, action-packed, loud movie to watch and you enjoyed 300, then is certainly one you have got to see.
