The aliens are coming and want to want to invade Earth and abduct the humans in this pure home-made British sci-fi film, Invasion Planet Earth, that really does keep the suspense alive.
It is action-packed more or less straight from the beginning. Simon Haycock and Mandy Dunn keep the movie going as Thomas Dunn, a psychiatrist who has lost his faith after the death of his daughter, and Mandy Dunn, a teacher who tells Thomas that she is pregnant on the same day as the aliens decide to invade. Thomas has lost all confidence and his life is shattered after the death of their daughter, but the news of the pregnancy brings new hope for them both. He must look deep inside himself, not just for his faith, but to regain the confidence, wisdom and strength if they are to survive the horror that they are about to face. The pregnancy is great news both of them have been waiting for and they will need to hold on to that as the aliens arrive. Tom and some of his patients are kidnapped and then begins a series of adventures for them that is hard to tell dreams apart from reality, it is at this point you need to keep full concentration on the movie to understand what is happening.
Even when the abductions begin it isn’t clear what the alien intentions are. It appears that Earth has to defend itself against its alien invaders but then it emerges later in the film that the danger is a lot closer to home.
Invasion Planet Earth stars Ian Reddington, known for his roles in Doctor Who, EastEnders, Coronation Street as well as roles from the West end theatres also appears as Mr Miller who wants to close the clinic Thomas Dunn practices. Charlie Campbell is really good as a young Thomas Dunn.
The special effects are really great and the acting is brilliant from all the cast. As we learn more about the characters the film really does not take long to draw you in and the action begins.
It seems to start like most alien invasion movies that I have seen (When the aliens come to invade Earth and in the end Earth wins) However this turns out not to be as predictable as that.
It is really thought-provoking and even after the movie ended it will keep you thinking about what you just watched.
If you are a fan of science fiction, as I am, then you will really enjoy this movie. Like all movies give it a chance at the beginning as we are introduced to the characters but you will not have to wait long for the action to begin.
For a science fiction film, it is packed with everything you want from a movie, while being a psychological thriller at the same time.
The special effects from the spaceships, to the explosions, are pretty impressive for a low-budget movie, but it is a lot better than most low-budget movies I have watched. And the acting is good too, the actors really do their best to bring the characters to life and make the film believable.
For any science fiction fans, I would recommend this movie. It is a British home-made movie, with good actors and a great storyline.
The battle for Earth’s survival is about to begin.
