
James Avery (November 27, 1945 – December 31, 2013)
Actor James Avery – Uncle Phil from the TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has died.
Best known for his role in Fresh Prince as Uncle Phil, Avery sadly passed away on the 31st December 2013 after complications from open heart surgery.
But while most people will know him for his iconic role in the TV series which launched Will Smiths’ stardom, nut lets take the time to look back on Avery’s work, which started long before The Fresh Prince of Bel Air!
James Avery More Than Just Uncle Phil!
- Avery was in the Vietnam war from 1968-69 and served as a member of the U.S. Navy.
- He was the voice of Shredder in the animated series of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- He also voiced James Rhodes in the TV series of Iron Man in the 90s.
- In 1980 he had two uncredited movie roles, one in The Blues Brothers and one in The Stunt Man.
- He has been part of 48 films.
- Apart from being in the Fresh Prince, he also was part of other TV shows including, Hill Street Blues, The Dukes of Hazzard, Cagney and Lacey, The A-Team, CSI, Star Trek: Enterprise and Grey’s Anatomy and many more.
- Avery was also the voice in three video games, Splash Mountain, Animated Storybook: The Lion King and Kinect Disney Adventures.
