With 2014 just around the corner, it’s time we took a peak at what movies you can look forward to in the new year.
Godzilla
A film which many have been looking forward, yes another reboot, but after seeing the trailer for the 2014 version of Godzilla, on the big screen, it is looking so much better than the 1998 version.
Jupiter Ascending
In a universe where humans are near the bottom of the evolutionary ladder, a young destitute human woman is targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe because her very existence threatens to end the Queen’s reign.
Directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski, Jupiter Ascending look like it is going to be another must see movie.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will decide who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
Andy Serkis returns, this time with Gary Oldman.
Captain America: Winter Soldier
Admit it this is THE Marvel movie you’ve waited for, the long-awaited sequel to Captain America, Steve Rogers battles against the Soviet agent, only known as the Winter Soldier.
With most of the cast returning, including Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark and hopefully Stan Lee in one of his now famous Marvel cameos, this looks like it’s going to be another Marvel movie that is going to pull in the audiences.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba return to Sin City, with news that Lady Gaga will also be in the movie, Sin City 2 has been a long time coming and hopefully it will be worth the wait
I, Frankenstein
The legend gets reborn and brought forward in to modern-day, Two hundred years after his shocking creation, Dr. Frankenstein’s creature, Adam, still walks the earth. But when he finds himself in the middle of a war over the fate of humanity, Adam discovers he holds the key that could destroy humankind.
Starring Bill Nighy and Aaron Eckhart and from the producers of Underworld, this looks like it’s going to be a movie that will be none stop action from start to finish, well lets hope so.
The Lego Movie
Yes, you read that right, The Lego Movie, but hang on, don’t chastise it just yet, featuring the voices of Will Farrell, Morgan Freeman, Will Arnett and Elizabeth Banks, this 3D CGI animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world.
He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
300: Rise of an Empire
So how long as it been since 300 hit our screens, for some too long and for others, not long enough, personally I loved the movie and 2014 is the time that the sequel to 300 finally comes to the big screens.
Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield-on the sea-as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. This film pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemesia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.
X-Men: Days of Future Past
The X-Men return and we’ve been teased with this one at the end of The Wolverine, with an end sequence that had us going, “OMG, I can’t wait”, Bryan Singer is at the helm of this one and it looks like it’s going to be a doozy!
The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future. Written by Twentieth Century Fox
Edge of Tomorrow
This is another one that I’m looking forward to, Tom Cruise returns to the Sci Fi genre as a soldier fighting aliens only to find himself caught in a time loop, I suppose you could say it might be a Sci Fi Groundhog Day!
Also starring Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton and Jonas Armstrong, this could very well be one of those movies that could do better than what people first think it would!
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Ah the Transformers return, this time with Mark Wahlberg, not overly sure on this one myself, the last movie was one that was enjoyable up to a point and the interest has gone of the boil a little, this time we see a mechanic and his daughter making a discovery that brings down Deceptions and Autobots!
Guardians of the Galaxy
Another Marvel movie that has everybody talking about it ever since Karen Gillam left Doctor Who and shaved her head!
Seriously though this one has a great cast list, including Benicio Del Toro as The Collector, who we first caught a glimpse of in the extra end sequence on Thor The Dark World, plus Vin Diesel lends his gravelly voice to the movie along with Bradley Cooper.
It certainly seems that Marvel will be spoiling us with movies in 2014, bring it on!
Interstellar
The recent teaser trailer for Interstellar being released for Christopher Nolan’s latest movie, a lot of people have asked questions about it.
Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
Starring , Matthew McConaughy, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine, it certainly seems that it may be another hit for Nolan.
The Hobbit: There and Back Again
We’ve just had the second part of the trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug, in cinemas and as with the Tolkien movies adapted by Peter Jackson, will have to wait 12 months for the last part of The Hobbit.
But the big question on everyone’s lips is, what will Jackson do when he’s finished with the six movies!
Transcendence
Now this caught my eye while I was looking through the movies coming our way in 2014, it may be one of those sleeper movies, that you really aren’t sure how it’s going to do and then, BAM! It does so much better than you anticipated.
Starring Johnny Depp as a terminally ill scientist who downloads his mind to a computer, all well and good to survive, but by doing so, he gives himself immense and power and becomes an unstoppable force.
Sounds strange, but I quite liked the trailer after seeing it, but then I again, I do like films that are a little strange.
So There You Have It!
That’s my 15 for movies in 2015, there are so much more coming in the year, so many to choose from, too many to list, but these are the ones that really caught my eye.
