January 2017 Movies Preview with Leigh Jones and Blazing Minds

Greetings Readers!

A new feature I’m hoping to do here is a monthly preview of the upcoming films for that month. And it all starts here! January 2017! 2016 is so last year.

So shake it off with some trips to the cinema here are our suggestions, read on after the video for my personal opinions:

There is so much stuff coming out and it’s only January! This is gonna be such a good year!

But, here is my take on the films mentioned, take in mind these are my opinions and not reflective of Blazing Minds and other writers on the website: Everyone is entitled to their opinion!

Assassin’s Creed: This is a hard one for me to really say anything about. I’m not too familiar with the games and lore within, other than Fassbender I don’t know much about the people involved and the trailers haven’t done much to raise hype for me. I just can’t seem to get up for it.

A Monster Calls: Don’t know the book, but this looks super interesting. The whole look of the film has me intrigued and I’ve seen some trailers that make this film look like it’s for kids and others that look like kids should stay far away from it and that’s intriguing. Or maybe I just need me some Sigourney Weaver.

Silence: I said in the video but this is my big one this month. Not only is it Scorsese, and does it have Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson and Adam Driver, but it just looks beautiful. When someone has the reserve to wait 20 years to make something, and that person is Scorsese, I can’t help but get really excited for what they’ve finally made.

Live By Night: Ben Affleck has been hit for hit with his directorial efforts. Every one has been solid and I really can’t wait to see what he does now. That’s really all I have to say.

Manchester By The Sea: This is gonna be someone’s new favourite film. It’s gonna hit and it’s gonna hit hard. I’ve been hearing buzz on this from festivals for almost a year and I can’t wait to see what all the hype is about. This looks fantastic.

Underworld: Blood War: They still make these? Cool

T2: Trainspotting: Tell me they are making a sequel to a film that came out 20 years ago and 9/10 times I’ll tell you it’s a stupid idea (2oolander anyone?). But this looks like it’s doing it right. Bringing back the original cast and Danny Boyle is the only way this could work and it looks like they have done the story justice. Also a part of it was filmed near where I grew up so, woo?

xXx 3: Return of Xander Cage: I have no opinions on this. I half watched the first xXx and really, these films aren’t made for me and nothing I say matters.

Jackie: Ultimately, I just wanna see Natalie Portman getting a chance to shake the Geek shackles she’d have. I love her 80% of the time but for her to finally get a chance to really act her heart out is something I am all for.

SPECIAL MENTION

La La Land: Turns out I forgot to mention La La Land. I don’t know how I did that and I should be punished (Maybe I’ll make myself watch xXx 2?). Whiplash is one of my favourite films this decade, it’s masterfully crafted to the point it’s almost without flaw, and I adore 10 Cloverfield Lane from last year so to see Damien Chazelle turn his hand at 1920s style cinema is just plain EXCITING. So up for this.

And that sums it up. I’ll be back at the end of the month with a preview for what you should be watching our for in February.

See ya then!

Leigh
