Keeping Faith – Eve Myles is Stunning in her Latest Performance

I first saw Keeping Faith or Un Bore Mercher when it was shown on S4C in 2017 and it was one of the many Welsh language dramas that had me hooked from the start, then in February 2018 the English language version, Keeping Faith, was shown on BBC Wales and even after watching it for the second time in my native tongue, the drama lost none of its appeal.

The superb drama has been making waves in Wales, Keeping Faith‘s viewing figures and stats speak for the show, with an average of 300,000 viewers per episode, making it the most popular show on BBC Wales for over 25 years. It also became the most downloaded non-network show on BBC iPlayer, with over 8.5 million downloads as at May 2018.

Living in Wales myself, it’s lovely to see dramas filmed in Wales and ones that have such high production values as Keeping Faith, the drama was filmed simultaneously in English and Welsh, the drama has the wonderful Eve Myles as Faith Howells, a lawyer who is on maternity leave after the birth of her third child, but all is not well during her leave as she finds herself on a journey to find out why her husband and business partner, Evan played by Bradley Freegard has mysteriously disappeared and has turned her world upside down.

Faith soon becomes a detective, taking many huge risks to solve the mystery and protect her family. But she soon discovers that her beautiful, idyllic hometown, set on the estuary, harbours many dark secrets that threaten the lives of her and the people she loves most.

Keeping Faith - Eve Myles - Blazing Minds Review

This eight-part series was created by Matthew Hall (Dark Shadows) and stars Mark Lewis Jones (Stella), Hannah Daniel (Hinterland) and Matthew Gravelle (Broadchurch), it’s a drama that doesn’t really give anything away throughout its run, keeping you on your toes as Faith tries to find out what has happened to Evan, Keeping Faith is beautifully shot and edited, with locations in Wales that are shot in such a way that they show them off with wonderful cinematic shots.

Keeping Faith is a stunning TV drama that is surely an award winner for Eve Myles, the cast all work very well with their characters and with the enthralling story that has been a joy to watch over the eight episodes. As I mentioned earlier I’ve seen Keeping Faith several times and each time I watch it, it has kept my attention throughout, this is a mystery drama that you can easily binge-watch

Not only is the production, cast and directing nicely done, but the soundtrack with six original songs composed for the series by singer-songwriter Amy Wadge are nicely suited for the feel of Keeping Faith.

It’s not very often that a drama comes along that pulls me in so much, but this is one that is a must see, if you have missed¬†Keeping Faith on the BBC, then never fear, the drama is being released on DVD on the 3 September 2018 thanks to Acorn Media International, the box-set features some great bonus features for fans and newcomers of the drama including, Behind the Scenes feature and five mini-features: Wales; Two Languages, Couples, A Small Town, An Introduction to Welsh.O
