The costumed high-school hero Kick-Ass joins with a group of normal citizens who have been inspired to fight crime in costume. Meanwhile, the Red Mist plots an act of revenge that will affect everyone Kick-Ass knows.
Back in 2010, Kick-Ass was one of those films that had an amazing following with Hit Girl and her foul mouth and story that made it a film that the critics loved and the fans went completely mad over it.
Original director Matthew Vaughn and writer Jane Goldman did a brilliant job on the first movie, so how would director/writer Jeff Wadlow do with the 2010 sequel.
Now after three years Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Hit Girl and Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) are back, but this time Red Mist is now a super-villain going under the name of Mother-F*%&er with only one thing on his mind revenge for the death of his father!
The movie does seem to lack a little something that the first one had, but it’s not entirely a bad thing, the characters and the actors have grown up since the previous film, this seems to be less of an all out laugh-fest and more of an attempt to drop in to the world of sequels.
None the less, Kick-Ass 2 is still chock full of some great action and even though it has that 15 certificate to pull in the younger teens, it is an enjoyable film to watch and I did find myself laughing quite a bit at some of the obvious adolescent jokes.
While character building may not be wholely part of the movie, it is great for the action and comedy of a film that has probably been made by someone who is not exactly sure of the comic books, I know I love the books and I did enjoy the film.
Critics have been mixed with their reviews with some hating it and some liking it and even some splitting down the middle and being quite indecisive overall.
For me, I loved it, although Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) probably is a little less potty mouthed as in the last movie, but when it comes to the violence in the film, it is done great for a 15 certificate.
The inclusion of Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), sadly who disowned the film for its violence, is quite comical, specially with his loyal sidekick, but the violence isn’t really not that bad, I’ve seen worse.
Kick-Ass 2 is an entertaining film, if you loved the first one, then you’ll certainly enjoy this one as well, it would have been nice to get that little bit extra for an 18, but hey, 15 certificates bring in more people to see them and I know that loads of 15-year-olds are going to love it.
