It takes a darker sky and lower lights to accentuate the sinister beauty of it. Bathed in cool colours it has just the right amount of mystery… While recording a film soundtrack in London’s Abby Road Studios, the prestigious, and eminent composer, and music couturier Randy Edelman debuted his “A Life on 80 Minutes” at the trending new nightlife “The Camden Club” in London, a two-hour extravaganza performed and streamed live. Like an atomic cloud he excited the hearts of the congregation and created moments that became memories…
As a pop star song writer and performer he has a huge and significant presence inside the music industry, most especially in the UK. He showcased his monstrous hits as once featured on the iconic BBC charting series “Top of the Pops”, “Concrete and Clay” and “Uptown Woman”, accompanied by special guest and evening’s host Tony Moore (Iron Maiden, Cutting Crew). He also shared some of the legendary and most popular songs this side of two centuries including “A Weekend in New England” (as recorded by Barry Manilow), “Isn’t it a Shame” (as recorded by pattilabelle.com and hip-hop superstar Nelly), and a very emotional “You” (as recorded by The Carpenters). He also shared an ode to England and to romance, with his song “My Special Friend”, “The Laughter and the Tears” (as recorded by Dionne Warwick) and “The Woman on Your Arm “ (as recorded by the legend Bing Crosby).
When I look at Randy Edelman I hear the most beautiful music in the world locked within the hundreds of motion picture blockbusters that he miraculously designed, performed and orchestrated. He played a whimsical medley of humorous films he created the music for including “Ghostbusters ll”, “Billy Madison”, “Kindergarten Cop”, “27 Dresses”, “My Cousin Vinny”, “Beethoven”, “The Mask”, and an array of others. Each were accompanied by a fanciful tale unleashing behind the scenes recollections. He then performed a stirring medley of his serious film scores including “Gettysburg“, “Dragonheart”, “Diabolique” and “Last of the Mohicans.”
Beyond his work with feature films and iconic pop songs Randy has also written themes for television encompassing the hit series “MacGyver“, ESPN, the Olympics, and even NASA. He has conducted entire orchestrations all over the globe and has opened in arenas for legends including The Carpenters and Frank Zappa. He has played at Budokan in Japan and the London Palladium and continues to perform in major cities all over. He is currently working on his musical “Short Cut” about the building of the Panama Canal and is in the midst of breathing life into several new films. Randy has also released his post pandemic anthem, “Comin’ Out the Other Side” which hit A/C Billboard chart at number 33, and his newest R&B hit “How Could I Let You Go”, via Tribeca Records which is quickly climbing the charts.
With his silent smile, Randy has the power of lifting the darkness. His small gestures make the world big. He has the capacity to create what he imagines. I imagine he must be very close to God in the hours that he composes the most alluring and relevant melodic and rhythmic tunes on the planet. His heart-touching notes and lyrics leave us to reflect our love and respect for the ones we care about, and ignite the human race to realize that at the darkest hours the sun will still always rise…..
