Those of you that read the reviews here on Blazing Minds will know how much I love the Theatr Colwyn Christmas Pantomimes from Magic Light Productions and this year sounds magical with their production of Aladdin.
Being only a month before the Panto season hits us again (oh no it isn’t … stop it) the countdown at Theatr Colwyn is well underway with tickets selling well already
This year’s show once again promises to delight young and old alike, with the classic story elements being there but with a few added surprises to keep audiences on the edge of there seats.
“We can reveal that the Princess will be seen flying on a Magic Carpet, there will be a number of spectacular Illusions throughout the storyline and the traditional magic lamp is given a whole new lease of life,” said Director Libby Edwards who also appears in the production as The Guardian of the Ring.
With a charming love story, comedy, magic, puppets and a happily ever after Aladdin is a true family panto.
Director Stuart Loughland is set to play Aladdin’s mother Mrs Twankey. This is his ninth time producing and appearing in pantomime at Theatr Colwyn.
Stuart told us: “I am really excited to be back. Aladdin is one of our favourites because we get to include a lot more magic.“
“The audience can expect high-quality family entertainment which is what panto is all about. It is full of comedy and action and it is a great story.”
He added: “Panto is often the first time our younger audience members may walk into a theatre so hopefully we will inspire a younger generation of theatregoers.“
Also taking part in this action-packed adventure is seasoned pantomime performer Steve Bloor as Wishee Washee and new to the cast Tomos Bohanna as our hero Aladdin.
On their journey, they encounter Brendon Riley who returns as the scheming villain Abanazer, Jay Beadle as The Genie, Lukas Kirkby as the Emperor, Rhiannon Petrou as Princess Jasmine and PC Stop Em played by Stephen Owen.
The Pantomime also sees the return of the very popular Magic Light Puppets, which we loved at last years panto, and The Pearl Shaw School of Performing Arts.
Personally I can’t wait to be transported into the glittering and magical realm of Aladdin at Theatr Colwyn for a visual feast of costumes and set, funny script and multi-talented cast an you never know we may just pop backstage to have a chat like last year.
