Signature Entertainment brings us a drama film called My Zoe. My Zoe premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.
This film is written, directed and stars Julie Delpy (An American Werewolf in Paris, The Countess). Also starring Richard Armitage (The Stranger, Oceans 8), Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Clash of the Titans), Daniel Bruhl (The Alienist, Rush) and Sophie Ally (Be Good, Curfew).
Julie Delpy plays a single mother, Isabelle, who is a geneticist and is trying to recover from a toxic marriage to James (Armitage).
When tragedy strikes, Isabelle uses her knowledge and expertise to discover a new way of having her Zoe back. She travels to Russia to seek the assistance of a fertility physician, Dr Fischer. Initially, when given the idea from Isabelle, Dr Fischer is very reluctant to help Isabelle, but with his reputation being at stake, he really wants to help Isabelle and goes through all the procedures.
This film brings about flashbacks to Zoe’s very early childhood and throughout until the tragedy struck. Watching this film, I went through every emotion and found myself going on a journey with Isabelle, and the fact that Isabelle will stop at nothing to have Zoe in her life.
This film was so beautifully written and so emotional in parts. Truly inspiring. You find yourself engrossed in the ethics and science of the film, and the lengths that Isabelle or any mother would go to for their child.
My Zoe is so beautifully written and directed by Julie Delpy, that you really emphasise with Isabelle and James, and you see both sides of their world.
I would highly recommend watching My Zoe, maybe have some tissues to hand, as it is emotional.
Julie Delpy and Richard Armitage, both portrayed the parents of Zoe, Isabelle and James so beautifully and with such emotion.
I have rated this film as a solid 5 out of 5, which gives credit to the writing, directing, producing and all the actors and actresses involved. Outstanding. Loved it.
