Prankster is a 2023 comedy written and directed by George “Buzz” O’Barts. It stars Dylan Garcia (Her Monster 2022, Dog Boy 2022), Gabby D Barbosa (Dinner Time 2021, Her Monster 2022), Bourke Floyd (Dawson’s Creek 2001, Minority Report 2002), Sean Berube (Army of the Dead 2021, King Richard 2021), Dan Weisgerber (Whiskey Sour 2022, Ghost Town 2023), Nadia Henry (Plum 2013, Senioritis 2018), Ken Ronk (The Death Rally 2020, The Dark Side of Opulent 2020), and Nex (Desertwood Daze 2021) as Bobo.

Prankster synopsis:

An eager young go-getter struggling to climb the corporate ladder of success finds his office under siege by pranks from his long-forgotten imaginary best friend, Bobo.

This film is a fun, wacky, engaging little romp into the world of practical jokes from one of the internet’s most well-known pranksters out there today. Having garnered an enormous fan base since his online arrival back in 2008, Nexraker, better known to his followers as Nex, is an internet sensation in the prank world and the main protagonist in this film, giving his fans plenty to laugh out loud about in this quirky slapstick comedy with heart. It’s zany, outrageous, and will definitely tickle your funny bone.

It starts out a bit slow at first but quickly picks up speed as the characters settle in for the long haul. The acting is hit or miss and pranks are a tad juvenile, yet it takes nothing away from the overall product. It’s still humorous, amusing, and fervent.

Prankster - Still
Prankster

The story is great, dealing with taboo political, racial, and societal issues, and the editing is pretty solid. The pacing is a little slow in some spots, but the film does a stellar job of holding your attention throughout. Also, the dialogue could use some work, but for the most part, it’s still a wacky, comical, kooky good time.

There were a couple of areas that could benefit from a touch-up, however, such as the music and camera angles. The music isn’t the best, pulling the viewer out of the experience more frequently than one would like, and the camera angles could definitely use some work. They felt flat, routine, and somewhat uninspired, certainly in need of some attention and TLC.

Prankster is a hilarious, offbeat, off-the-wall indie comedy that’ll have you laughing till the very end. It’s charming, entertaining, and endearing. If you like passionate, quick-witted comedy films with tons of heart and gags galore, then look no further. Check this one out if you get the chance, it’s one goofy good time.
