It may have been delayed due to some rather strong winds earlier this morning, but the Second Deck of the Rhyl Harbour Bridge was finally lifted into place.
Spectators Watch as The Second Deck of Rhyl’s Harbour Bridge is Moved
A crowd of people arrived at Rhyl Harbour early this morning waiting for the Second Deck of the Harbour Bridge to be lifted into place, high winds had caused a delay and the 10am time was moved to a lot later in the afternoon at around 3pm as the large crane lifted the deck in to place.
Onlookers, stood in awe as the giant 32 metre walkway was lifted over the road and over to the place, ready to be lowered in to place over the Clwyd Estuary.
The new Pont y Ddraig bridge, when complete, will allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross over the Clwyd Estuary in safe way from the bustling traffic on the roads and a relaxing route across.
The 32 metre deck, along with the first section, are built with components by a Swiss company that specialises in advanced composites, which allows the bridge to be strong enough to withstand the weather and light enough to be raised and lowered when needed.
A last step of the construction will be lighting the Pont y Ddraig bridge, which will allow the Harbour Bridge to be lit throughout the night so that it will remain a feature of Rhyl Harbour throughout the dark nights as well as in the bright summer days.
What People Think Of The New Harbour Bridge (Pont y Ddraig)
I asked several people while I was taking photos of the bridge and had a bit of mixed feedback, some are pleased to see that something new and exciting has been brought to the harbour and like what has been done.
Some however think that it’s a waste of the tax-payers money which could have been spent on something else.
But let’s face it you will always get mixed feelings when something as big and as expensive as this is constructed, so if you live in Rhyl or the surrounding areas.
