Roll the Credits is a monthly horror film discussion club based in Colchester, designed for anyone with a curiosity for horror, whether seasoned fans or total newcomers. Each month, we select a horror film (from elevated horror and psychological thrillers to gothic classics and folk horror) which members watch in their own time. Then we come together for a relaxed, informal group discussion.
The aim is simple:
To build a local community of horror enthusiasts, foster conversation, and connect people through a shared love of film. Alongside the monthly club, the project also helps promote relevant horror-related events — including local screenings, film festivals like Black Sunday Film Festival, horror book events, and anything that might inspire fans and support smaller, independent or local businesses.
We’re proudly hosted at The Minories Gallery in the heart of Colchester, a creative and cultural hub known for supporting community initiatives, and The Commons Café — a warm, community-driven café and social space with a strong emphasis on inclusivity, sustainability, and collaboration.
All sessions take place at The Commons Café every third Monday of the month at 7 PM.
We’ve just announced our first session, discussing Hereditary (2018), on Monday, 15th September 2025, at 7 PM.
To keep everything connected, as you already know, I also run an Instagram account: @_rollthecredits, which acts as a hub for all updates. As it gets going, it will feature:
- Details and reminders for each month’s film discussion
- Information about horror-related community events in Colchester and beyond
- Local screenings and film festivals
- Educational content on horror films, directors, actors, and sub-genres

Ultimately, Roll the Credits is about bringing people together through thoughtful discussion, celebrating the genre, and supporting the brilliant creative spaces around us.
