The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for Zack Adler’s action-thriller The Courier will release digitally on December 27, 2019, exclusively through Music.Film Recordings. The 24-track album features intense and captivating music, scored by award-winning composer James Edward Barker and Tim Despic. Aside from creating its stunning soundtrack, Barker also served as co-writer and producer on the film.
“The courier score is a race against time and an emotionally charged countdown, driven by danger signals from the bass and guitar FX, forged by tense strings, and wide incongruous horns, and always with a pulse from various percussive programmed beats. It’s an incredibly varied score, whether that’s from the more commercially sounding opening titles track, or the dark trance like remix of Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.3, but always tied together with the main theme peeking through”, explains James Edward Barker.

The Courier will be released in the UK Friday 20th December 2019 through Signature Films and Rollercoaster Angel Productions, which the British composer co-founded with director Zack Adler. The movie stars Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight franchise) as a vicious crime boss out to kill Nick (Amit Shah), the lone witness set to testify against him. He hires a mysterious female motorcycle courier (Olga Kurylenko, Quantum of Solace) to unknowingly deliver a poison-gas bomb to slay Nick, but after she rescues Nick from certain death, the duo must confront an army of ruthless hired killers in order to survive the night.
Barker describes: “We used such a wide range of techniques and sounds. The score is very contemporary, articulated and designed to make you feel like you are ‘trapped, in a meat grinder… and there is no way out.’ The emotional themes I think are particularly strong and ‘The Chair P2’ is probably my favourite track, as we build up to the potential demise of our lead character played by the incredible Olga Kurylenko. Her performance was so easy to score to as she is so engaging and you really root for her as she is put through the ringer. It’s a real fight for survival and I believe you hear, and more importantly feel, that in the score.”
