There has been a lot of negativity about Transformers: Age of Extinction since its release, so I took some time, finally, out to check out the fourth in the franchise and yet another one that is in 3D, is the movie as bad as some of the critics say or has there been a massive exaggeration on how the film has been accepted in the movie community, well let’s find out with the Blazing Minds review of the movie.
As humanity picks up the pieces, after the conclusion of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet. However, a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control – all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his cross-hairs.
So what do you expect with a Michael Bay film? Well quite frankly you know what you are going to get with one of his movies, lots of action set sequences, explosions a complete overdose of CGI and a film which isn’t scarred of running for almost 3 hours in 3D!
Now don’t get me wrong, I do actually like the Transformers movies, up until the last one, that moment when Leonard Nimoy sprouted Spock’s “The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few” quote, just killed it dead for me, not many films can carry on past three movies, that’s why most Hollywood types stop with a movie being a trilogy, but not with the Transformers franchise.
Bringing even more of those “robots in disguise” to the big screen must be a passion for Bay, yes they are fun to watch, but does he have to have the movies getting longer and longer and … Well you get the idea.
Mark Wahlberg carries his role off well very well as the overprotective father and inventor who can certainly carry himself when it comes to action sequences etc.
But the real stars of the movie have to be the Transformers and the Dinobots!
There are several things that really stand out about Transformers 4, the blatant over use of explosions and the amount of battles, yes I know this is probably what they are all about but to have this for nearly 3 hours can be a little mind numbing towards the last 40 minutes of the movie.
With a 3D movie that runs for so long you do get a little used to the 3D and I found I actually stopped noticing the effect simple for all the action that was going on!
Although this film is better than the 2nd and 3rd movies, it doesn’t have the overall feel of the first movie.
Overall Transformers: Age of Extinction is an all out action packed movie with some great CGI and 3D, it’s just that it is just so long and it is easy to lose interest in the characters and the overall plot.
