2017 was a great year for movies, but with 2017 behind us it looks like 2018 is going to be chock full of movies that we really don’t want to miss on the big screen.
With several movies being released by Marvel, several horrors and more sequels and prequels to shake a stick at, it’s been a tough one to choose from the many that are on the way, but I’ve done my best to pick out some of the movies in 2018 that have caught my eye.
Avengers: Infinity War
Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artefacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.
Ready Player One
When the creator of a virtual reality world called the OASIS dies, he releases a video in which he challenges all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune. Wade Watts finds the first clue and starts a race for the Egg.
Black Panther
Now here’s one I’ve been so waiting for, ever since the introduction of the Black Panther in Avengers: Civil War, the trailer just looks brilliant and it looks like it could be another smash for Marvel.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Wasn’t too sure about this one at first, but after hearing more about the movie, I have to say that I’m intrigued and can’t wait to see how Ron Howard brings a young Han Solo to the screen and the adventures of Han and Chewie before joining the Rebellion, including their early encounters with Lando Calrissian.
Deadpool 2
What can I say, it’s Deadpool 2 need I say more! OK maybe a bit to flesh this out for your guys, so basically Deadpool is back in a sequel, kicking ass, bring mouthy and just being awesome. Can we really go wrong with this one!
The New Mutants
Another movie that grabbed my interest from the trailer, this looks like it’s going to be totally different to what we’ve seen with The X-Men in the past and it opens up a new side for the mutant cannon!
Pacific Rim: Uprising
This has been a movie that I’ve been waiting too long to see, the return of the Jaegers and Kaijus, this is hopefully going to be another movie that is going to looks amazing in 3D and IMAX. John Boyega is the lead in this one, but let’s hope he doesn’t have too many comedic lines like Star Wars: The Last Jedi!
The Incredibles 2
Wow has it really been so long since we last saw The Incredibles on the big screen? Yep, we last saw them in 2004 when we were left with a cliffhanger at the end of the movie. The family return, along with Brad Bird directing, as they continue where the last movie left off, thank goodness.
Red Sparrow
This movie caught my eye the other day when I was going through some trailers, Ballerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to ‘Sparrow School’ a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. But her first mission, targeting a CIA agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations.
Tomb Raider
A remake, a reboot, well who knows, but one thing is for sure, from the look of the trailer, Tomb Raider certainly looks like it is going to be action-packed and no doubt it will have some moments during the movie that many gamers may pick up on.
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Another Marvel movie for us to enjoy, Ant-Man returns and this time with the Wasp by his side, this looks like another good movie to enjoy in 2018 and let’s face it, its Marvel!
Venom
This is pencilled in for October this year and Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams andJenny Slate, not sure how this one is going to play out in the DCEU, but hey, there’s only one way to find out.
Aquaman
We last saw Aquaman (Jason Momoa) in Justice League (enough said about that the better), so now he gets his own movie to entice DC fans to the cinemas. Arthur Curry (Momoa) learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and to be a hero to the world.
Mission Impossible 6
Not much is clear about the sixth movie in the franchise, besides that Tom Cruise will be reprising his role alongside Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames. The film is due for release in July.
Isle of Dogs
I love animated movies and this looks like it’s going to be another delightful film to watch from Wes Anderson, the film features the voices of Scarlett Johansson, Greta Gerwig and Frances McDormand, it’s set in Japan, the Isle of Dogs follows a boy’s odyssey in search of his dog.
X-Men Dark Phoenix
Wait, another Marvel film? Oh heck yeah! Due for release in November, X-Men Dark Phoenix follows Jean Grey as she begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world.
Insidious: The Last Key
I do like a horror movie from time to time and for my sins, I did enjoy the other movies, well when I say enjoy it was fun watching people scream in the cinema, Parapsychologist Dr Elise Rainier faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet – in her own family home. Ooooo Spooky!
The Nun
Another horror, I loved The Conjuring movies and so when it was announced that the demon that made the hair on the back of my neck stand to attention from The Conjuring 2 was getting a spin-off I was intrigued.
Hotel Transilvania 3
It’s a summer vacation for the third outing of the rather lovable monsters, Mavis surprises Dracula with a family voyage on a luxury Monster Cruise Ship so he can take a vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. Expect lots of laughs for the kids and hopefully some for the adults as well.
