With all the announcements recently of all the upcoming comic book movies from both Marvel and DC Comics, Vue Cinemas did a survey called Comic Books Vs Movies and there was some surprising discoveries made from the outcome of the survey. Here at Blazing Minds we love Comic Book Movies, so we are proud to have been given the results to share with our readers.
77% of people feel that there’s been no major changes in comic books that have made them drastically better or worse, the general consensus is that people are proud of the way that comics have stuck to their roots.
For the respondents that do feel that films have made comics better or worse, most people believe that film adaptations have made them better.
Almost a third of people who thought that film adaptions have made comics better believed that this is due to the enhancement of CGI and special effects. This is followed by films enabling the storylines and characters to be strengthened.
Of the people that believe that comics have been made worse by film, the majority feel that this is due to major storylines being rewritten. Green Lantern was picked out as being a particularly bad remake.
Marvel have overwhelmingly topped DC in the battle of comic remakes, with over 5 times the amount of respondents saying that Marvel films are better.
East Anglia houses the most DC fans out of the whole of the UK, however, they still prefer Marvel overall, as does the rest of the country.
Batman is by far the UK respondent’s favourite comic book adaptation. The top five are as follows:
1. Batman
2. Spiderman
3. Superman
4. Iron Man
5. X Men
Two comic book adaptations came joint worst, the ultimate losers being The Incredible Hulk and Green Lantern. The top 5 worst comic book adaptations are as follows:
1. Incredible Hulk/Green Lantern
2. DareDevil
3. Spiderman
4. Captain America
5. Batman
When asked what people want to see in the upcoming Superman/Batman film, most people claimed that they want to see ‘all of it’, demonstrating a high demand for the films to stay true to the comics. This came tied with ‘The Joker’, who people are wanting to see make an appearance.
