It’s that time of the year folks as we delve into my favourite movies from the year that I have watched on the big screen and the small screen, so please check out my Top 10 Movies of 2023.
Godzilla Minus One (Gojira 1.0)
In a world tinged with awe and trepidation, the colossal and iconic creature known as Godzilla stands as a towering force of nature, a symbol of both destruction and, paradoxically, a guardian of the Earth. However, in the alternate realm of “Godzilla Minus One,” the mighty kaiju’s presence is noticeably absent, leaving a void that is felt across the cinematic landscape. The absence of Godzilla, the mythical behemoth with atomic breath and an indomitable spirit, alters the dynamic of the world, creating a narrative where humanity grapples with challenges without the looming threat of the monster. The silence that echoes in Godzilla’s absence serves as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between chaos and order that defines our relationship with the natural world.

Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer refers to J. Robert Oppenheimer, a prominent American physicist and the scientific director of the Manhattan Project during World War II. Born on April 22, 1904, Oppenheimer played a crucial role in developing the atomic bomb. His leadership and contributions to the project earned him the nickname “the father of the atomic bomb.” Despite his scientific achievements, Oppenheimer faced controversy later in life due to his political beliefs and associations. Nevertheless, his role in advancing nuclear physics remains a significant chapter in scientific and historical discourse.

Barbie

John Wick Chapter 4
John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes. This 169 min all-out action movie has certainly taken the John Wick franchise that step further into the JW Universe, John Wick Chapter 4 ramps up the action and the fight sequences so much so that some of the fights last for ages and although some are long they are still amazing to watch as they become more of a macabre dance to the death.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3
It’s hard to think that the last Guardians of the Galaxy movie was back in 2017, so it’s been a long wait for Volume 3, but by gosh it was well worth the wait to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 in IMAX with such a fitting end to the trilogy and one that is quite emotional in many scenes of the movie. Over the years we have been treated to the antics and adventures of the Guardians thanks to the awesome James Gunn and this third movie works brilliantly as an end to the trilogy, there is everything you could possibly want from the characters and the story. Plenty of action, superb special CGI effects and wonderful prosthetic character effects as well that bring the world of Marvel to life on the big screen.

Asteroid City takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955. The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1
In Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the world’s fate at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan must consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.
As with all the Mission Impossible movies the start of the film really sets you up for what’s to come and it is a little unexpected, to say the least, a Russian submarine with new technology is making its way through the water and it’s been getting past most of the security of the world and not being picked up thanks to the technology that is going to become something that maybe some of us fear, A.I. (Artificial Intelligence).

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is an animated superhero film that served as the sequel to the critically acclaimed “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, the film continues the groundbreaking narrative of multiple Spider-People from different dimensions. As the multiverse expands, Miles Morales, the Afro-Latino Spider-Man, embarks on a new adventure that takes him across various dimensions, encountering different versions of Spider-Men and Spider-Women. The film promised stunning animation, diverse characters, and an engaging storyline that explored the complexities of the multiverse. With its unique visual style and a blend of humour and heart, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” has captivated audiences and further solidified its place as a standout entry in the Spider-Man franchise.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
The movie is based on the popular game stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head and Hugh Grant. A charming thief (Pine) and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the legendary roleplaying game’s rich world and playful spirit to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure that will have you laughing out loud.

Apocalypse Clown
