So the other day a rather big package arrived at the Blazing Minds office, packed up safely were several cans of the new mixer drinks called Gloworm, so how could we all not organise a taste test for them!
Arranging an evening with our dear friends at The Pier Hotel in Rhyl, we set up for a night of testing the drinks all for you, the dear reader, to learn all about them and what we thought of these little cans, that produce an extra kick to those already tasty spirits.
We all headed to The Pier Hotel last night, yes I know it was a Thursday and we usually have our meetings on a Friday, but all lot of the team had a lot to do Saturday, so we moved our day for this special taste testing evening.
After we all had the normal catch up chats and what was going on and upcoming projects that we are all getting sorted, we finally got around to testing the Gloworm cans.
Premium spirits and cocktails are leading the growth in the on-trade but the premium mixer offer remains traditional and limited. Gloworm evolves the category with a range of unique mixers that attract discerning drinkers, encourage consumers to try new flavours and create more interesting serves.
The cans are fairly small, 150ml, and although they are small, they are certainly packed with flavour, the drinks can be used as mixers as well as on their own with ice, but we would recommend them as they are intended, as a mixer.
Mixing it up with Gloworm
Gloworm comes in four flavours that are mixed with a different spirit, so the flavours are brought out more in the correct mixed drink.
I have to say that Wayne, at The Pier Hotel, mixes the drinks perfectly.
First to start with was the “Pear, Spice and Lime” with a shot of rum, you really get a bite of the pear in this one, the rum certainly brings out the spice and an after taste on the tongue from the lime, very delicious.
Moving on to the Gin for the “Cucumber and Apple“, the first thing that hits you with this one is the cucumber followed by the sweetness of the apple and a hint of the gin. Don’t let the thought of the cucumber put you off the combination works very well and is rather refreshing.
What could you have with “Raspberry and Orris“, how about Vodka! The first hit you get from this one is the raspberry, giving you a real fruity taste followed by a floral twist from the Orris, finished off with the taste of the Vodka, very nice indeed.
Bourbon with “Ginger and Lemon Grass“, being a lover of ginger, this is probably my favourite of them all, the ginger get a real kick from the Bourbon and with the slight hint of the lemon grass, this one certainly has the taste buds going in to over time and each sip only adds to the intensity of the ginger and bourbon in the perfect combination.
The overall consensus from the Blazing Minds team was that the Gloworm drinks are delicious, each member of the team did have their favourites from the four that are available, bit it certainly seems that in the end it came down to a battle between the Raspberry and Orris up against the Ginger and Lemon Grass, with the latter winning in the end.
So another successful night for the team and a big thanks to Gloworm for some rather delicious drinks to complete our night with.
