It is always difficult for independent horror films to find space in the market amongst big studios such Blumhouse. Beyond The Woods however has not only managed to gain critical success amongst horror fans and critics, but has now also been nominated for ‘Best Thriller’ at the National Film Awards UK in London.
This is the most prestigious award that the film has been nominated for to date, although it has previously won Best Feature awards at film festivals in both Montreal and London.
The list of nominations was compiled from a public vote consisting of over 1.9 million people in the UK, with Beyond The Woods having been selected as one of eight features films to be included in the category alongside mainstream Hollywood and Netflix entries.
The winner will be decided by a public vote which you can do on the National Film Awards UK website.
In regards to the nomination Writer-director Seán Breathnach said; “Getting a nomination like this is huge for independent filmmakers. It’s a validation of the tremendous amount of work, time and passion that the cast and crew put into the film. The hardest thing to do these days is to get eyes on your film, especially without a large PR budget. Nominations for awards like this prove that it’s possible to make it all the way to the top, even with a tiny budget, and to have your film stand shoulder to shoulder with the big guns. It gives you the drive to keep going.”
Beyond The Woods is currently available on DVD from HMV in the UK and Walmart in the US, with Video On Demand availability on SKY, Amazon, iTunes and YouTube in the U.K, Ireland, U.S and Canada.
