Now you may all be aware how much we love Sci-Fi here at Blazing Minds, we’ve covered several Sci-Fi Weekender and Wales Comic Con events and the first chance we get to sit down to watch a Sci-Fi movie, we grab it.
The great news is there is something happening that is perfect for us and it’s local, no travelling hundreds or even thousands of miles to get to, we’re talking about the BFI Days of Fear and Wonder Sci-Fi Film Festival which is taking place at the Scala Cinema and Arts Centre in Prestatyn.
This is going to one of those events that will have fans of the science fiction genre of movies dying to be at, it’s not just new movies either, the BFI Days of Fear and Wonder Sci-Fi Film Festival will feature such classics as Fritz Langs 1927 masterpiece, Metropolis, the 1953 version of The War of the Worlds, Ridley Scott’s directors cut of Alien and even Firefly fans favourite, Serenity.
So you can imagine that the festival is going to be pretty awesome, more films are to be announced for us Sci-Fi fans to enjoy and I’m personally looking forward to finding out what they will be. You can imagine that the weekend in November I will be cramming in as much Sci-Fi as I can. I’ve been lucky enough to see some on the big screen, but when it comes to the likes of Metropolis and The War of the Worlds these are classics that should be seen as they were intended on a big screen among other fans of the genre.
The BFI Days of Fear and Wonder Sci-Fi Film Festival takes place in November this year and from all the interest in it so far it looks like it’s going to be one heck of a fun-filled weekend. Tickets are priced at £4.50 and are available from the Scala in Prestatyn.

15:00 – Victor Hallett Talk / “Natalie Jones Workshop – An Analogue & Digital Perspective of Science Fiction Film”
16:00 – War of the Worlds
18:00 – “Turn On” Local Sci-Fi Film Short plus Q&A with Director Mat Owen
19:00 – The Day the Earth Caught Fire
20:00 – Doctor Who “Death in Heaven” in Saronie’s Bar – time may change (Looking into the possibility of recording it and showing it a little later so that might change to 20:30)
Sunday 9th November
13:30 Alien
16:30 Serenity
There will also be quizzes by Darren and Adam Bradley and a costume (cosplay) competition!
