Black Box – Fim Review

Garry Graham-Smith stars as Marcus in this low budget sci-fi adventure movie, Black Box, where mining asteroids near Earth has become possible.

The movie begins as Marcus is settling into the escape pod and trying to gain control. At this point, we seem to know as much as the character does which is great.

We are guessing every step of the way about what happened.

After the accident kills all the other people aboard the station, Marcus ends up trapped in a damaged escape pod, injured and experiencing memory loss.

He manages to contact ground control, but he will need to remember what happened back at the station if they are to help him make it back to Earth alive.

He is joined by Sarah (Kerry Ely) who is the voice of ground control to whom he first makes contact with. Ray Ghetti (Simon Parker) is the second voice we hear, who is assigned to assist him to control his escape pod. However, there seems to be a lot more history between him and Marcus, as we discover as the story progresses.

Professor Chatterjee (Saeed Ashiq) stars as the voice of the medic who tries to help Marcus with his injuries and memory loss. The adrenaline really gets pumping when Marcus has to make a choice: Stay in his escape pod and make it to Earth safely or leave his escape pod and make a life-threatening rescue. What would you do?

pi01 - Director Ángel Delgado and Producer Gemma Bradley in the Black Box escape pod set

Garry Graham-Smith does brilliantly in keeping the suspense going and keeping our attention as he acts alone in every scene of Black Box. He really is a believable actor and it is not easy to keep the audience attention and guessing about the mystery of what really happened aboard the station and the character.

The film was all shot on location in a large warehouse, where a full-sized escape pod was build to bring alive the belief of Garry Graham-Smith actually being in space.

Brilliant special effects, including the zero gravity in the film, is fantastic.
Produced by Manchester-based Newfound Planet Films and a story by Angel Delgado and Ben Edmundson.

bts24 - The lone escape pod set between set changes

The film was produced with the help of crowd-funding which goes to show the pride of the British people in the support of British made films, and the confidence they had in the producers, writers and the cast.

I really enjoyed this film and look forward to many more produced by Newfound Planet Films. It has everything I like in a good sci-fi movie. Suspense, mystery and danger.
