Chester Comic-Con saw Geeks and Nerds at Chester Racecourse
Last weekend saw us being invited over to Chester Racecourse for this year’s Chester Comic-Con, it was our first time visiting this event and what an experience for a SciFi nerd like myself.
Those of you that read the articles here on Blazing Minds will have seen that we do frequent several Comic Cons and with Chester only being just over 30 miles away, it was great to be invited to the event.
2016 was a huge success for the first Chester Comic-Con and the team returned to the same venue again over the weekend and had double space with double the fun for all the Comic-Con fans to enjoy throughout the day.
There was a great collection of celebrity guests signers from Guardians of the Galaxy, Labyrinth, Game of Thrones, Humans and many more, Star Wars themed props, iconic film and TV vehicles, stage entertainment and so much more, plus the ever-popular cosplay competition took place for cosplayers to show their skills at making those amazing cosplay outfits, this year had some stunning entrants, so glad I wasn’t one of the judges, there is no way I could have picked the winners!
But it wasn’t those entering the Cosplay competition that had stunning outfits, there were so many people walking around the event in Cosplay, so many in fact that is was sometimes hard to keep up with them all, but thankfully our intrepid Cosplay photographer, John, was able to track many down and bring us some great shots of the amazing Cosplay from Chester Comic-Con.
As with any Comic-Con event, there was some cancellations and additions to the event, but it didn’t deter those heading to Chester Racecourse from enjoying their day. The guests were fantastic, chatting away with everyone and also taking the time to have photos taken as well as slotting in time in the Q&A sessions, which I found very intimate, as the room that they were in were long and narrow, but these worked well. It wasn’t like being packed into a large hall, trying to see the actor etc, you could see and hear them and best of all they could do the same.
With so much going on, I did manage to grab a couple of Q&A sessions, one, in particular, was the one with Chris Fairbanks, who many will no from Batman (1989), Auf Wiedersehen Pet and Guardians of the Galaxy. He gave some great insights into his career and the business, with some funny antidotes about his time on set of various movies and how he got the role of Moxie in Auf Wiedersehen Pet, I have to say that this was one of the most interesting Q&As that I have sat in, and what a really nice guy.
With Chris Fairbank being at the Chester Comic-Con, there was one thing that I wanted to do after chatting to him earlier and that was to get my buddy “Bat-Gaz” to meet with Chris that we could get a shot of them together in the scene from Batman, it was an honour for Chris to be up for this.
After chatting to several people that had been at the first Chester Comic-Con that took place last year, many said that this year was bigger and better, I have to say that this was my first time at this event and for me it was a brilliant day, the cosplayers were superb, from the kids to the adults, they all did amazing.
Many thanks to the organisers for inviting Blazing Minds to the Chester Comic-Con, we’re really looking forward to next year’s event. So keep your eyes out folks for the date for the third event in Chester next year.
A great family-friendly event that has almost everything for everyone attending, with comic stalls, artists, actors, cosplayers and more.
