The brand new Sky Original series CODE 404 is now on Sky On Demand and NOW TV, I binge-watched all 6 bite-size episodes last night and I have to say it was a scream!
Code 404 starts with an undercover operation going a bit South when John Major (Daniel Mays) a British detective killed in action, later he is brought back to life using experimental Artificial Intelligence and he teams back up with his partner DI Roy Carver (Stephen Graham) as they try to solve a crime and Major tries to get back with his wife who thought he was dead and had moved on with a new man in her life.

I have to say that when I first saw the trailer for Code 404, I wasn’t sold on the idea, but after seeing that all the episodes were now available to watch I gave it a go and I was glad I did, it’s not very often that I’ll watch one series on one big binge-watch, but the almost 3 hours of the 6 episodes just flew by.
Code 404 reminded me of a sort of mix of various shows and films, a mashup of Randal & Hopkirk Deceased, Robocop and the buddy-cop comedy of Hot Fuzz.

Mays and Graham have a great comedy presence on the screen as DI Major (Mays) stumble through his new lease of life and an A.I. that isn’t exactly working how it should be and DI Carver (Graham) tries to cope with the problems and other underlying issues that he’s trying not to show Major.
I wouldn’t say that Code 404 is an all-out laugh your backside off show, but the comedy is certainly well written that if you’re not laughing out loud with some strong belly laughs, you end up with a big grin on your face from some of the situations that Major and Carver get themselves into, look out for the drugs bust and the chiefs one-way windows.
There is an underlying storyline that runs throughout the episodes and it ties everything together nicely, there are also some other characters that stand out through the six episodes, such as the other cops that constantly tease Major with some of the worst A.I./Robot jokes going, but even I found myself sniggering at them from time to time.

Daniel Peak (Mongrels, Not Going Out), Tom Miller (Horrible Histories) and Sam Myer have created a funny short series, that certainly brings some joy in these dark times of the COVID19 Pandemic and let’s face it we need to have as much fun and laughter as possible and Code 404 certainly helps with that.
Code 404 is on Sky One and NOW TV.
