Destroyer starring Nicole Kidman as you’ve never seen her before is directed by Karyn Kusama (Girl Fight, Aeon Flux), this new crime-thriller sees Kidman as Erin Bell, a hardened LAPD detective worn down to the core by the strain of her job and the aftermath of an undercover FBI sting gone horribly wrong.
But when her old nemesis resurfaces, she becomes hell-bent on hunting him down to right the wrongs of her tragic past. Haunted by guilt and loss, will Erin get her last shot at redemption – or is it too late?
Destroyer is a movie that grips you right from the very start, as Kidman’s character attends a crime scene to the astonishment of the other police on the scene as her state of mind is something to be questioned.
But all isn’t as it seems with this powerful drama that uses it’s timeline of events to full effect to take you back and forth to bring us back to the point at the beginning of the film, we see a younger Kidman undercover with her partner Chris (Sebastian Stan – Avengers: Endgame, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) as the undercover job goes deep and tragically wrong.
The usage of the timeline and the characters are what kept me fixed to the Destroyer, I found myself being pulled into the story, going deeper into the reasons why Kidman is the way she is and what happened years before, it’s a fascination idea and writers Phil Hay (screenplay), Matt Manfredi (screenplay) have brought us a story that you want to find out more throughout the movie.
Karyn Kasuma‘s direction is very nicely done and she certainly brings out Kidman’s acting ability as bother the younger Bell as well as the worn out and disgruntled older version in present day, the movie has some great moments in its cinematography to make it look stunning in certain scenes.
Destroyer is a thriller that is packed with powerful performances and is stunning to watch.
With a Golden-Globe nominated performance from Kidman, Destroyer will have you on the edge-of-your-seat, the movie is out on Digital Download, DVD & Blu-Ray™ this May.
