Last night we spent an evening with the Terrible Tudors as Horrible Histories brought their live show to Venue Cymru in Llandudno, as a show that is not only educational for children and adults, but is truly bonkers!
We all want to meet people from history. The trouble is everyone is dead!
I have to say that I wasn’t prepared for the evening’s entertainment, but my nephew certainly was, he was very excited about Horrible Histories and even more so when we were told that 3D glasses would be given out during the second half of the show!
Last night was the turn of the Terrible Tudors and the next night (tonight) would be the Evil Egyptians, but what a night we were treated to. Now I have to say that I’ve not watched the TV show, yes I know shocker! So I wasn’t overly sure what to expect from the 3 actors that appeared on the stage dressed in Tudor style clothing and with cart!
What a pleasant surprise we were taken back in time to the horrible Henries and to the end of evil Elizabeth, treated to the legends (and the lies!) about the torturing Tudors and these were tastefully done to not over glorify the gore and horrible things the Tudors did.
We were even treated to a musical number, with all the audience, young and old getting involved, in learning the fate of Henry’s headless wives and his punch up with the Pope.
Horrible Histories, Terrible Tudors in 3D!
The second half of the Terrible Tudors we were treated to something very special, the audience were given 3D glasses to wear to add another dimension to the Horrible Histories.
The screen at the back of the stage had been used with great effect in the first half, but now it took on the extra dimension by going 3D, as we met Bloody Mary and watched Ed fall dead in his bed.
It was wonderful watching kid in the audience ducking and diving as the 3D took them by surprise with so many various objects looking like they were flying of the stage and into the audience, ah I remember the early days of 3D cinema being like this.
We all survived the Spanish Armada as it sailed into the audience and dodged the cannon balls that seemed to flying right at us.
Horrible Histories, the Terrible Tudors is a fantastic show, it’s educational, funny and is great for all ages, I did Tweet out during the intermission that it’s “Bonkers”
Too be honest, Bonkers is probably one of the best ways to describe the show, but for something that is silly, it works to bring history into the minds of the young and for this I applaud the show and the team that have put it together.
