Another night at Cineworld and another Unlimited Screening, but this screening of Like a Boss was a little different as Cineworld gave Unlimited Members the chance to invite a friend along to join them for an evening at the cinema.
Now those of you that have seen the trailer for the film which is out in UK cinemas on the 21st February have most probably thought that Like a Boss does have some funny moments, but just thought it looks a little trashy, well you’d be right!
Starring Rose Byrne (Insidious: The Last Key) and Tiffany Haddish (The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part) as the main characters Mel and Mia, two friends that have a long friendship that started a make-up company and although are successful, they both have their flaws when it comes to the business, with Mell being the practical one and Mia being the one that wants to earn her fortune and live a lavish lifestyle.
With the company owing a shed load of money, make-up millionaire Claire Luna (Salma Hayek) comes along and offers to pay off the debt that they owe and partner up with them to save their business and in turn steal their company from right underneath their noses!
Now I have to say that the unlimited screening that I saw had lots of people laughing out loud at many scenes, I’m not entirely sure why they were laughing at a lot of the film, as for me personally I really found the film brash and most of the scenes were rather trashy and if it wasn’t for the performances for Byrne and Haddish the film would have had a lower rating!
I did find myself smiling from time to time, but this was mainly down to the stupidity of the characters, such as the comments from Sydney (Jennifer Coolidge, American Pie) but even these are rather demeaning and I think my smile was more of an unnerving grimace!
Moving on to Salma Hayek, she is certainly wasted on her role in Like a Boss, we have seen so many better performances from her over the years, hopefully, she will make up for the role in this film with her return as Sonia Kincaid in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard!
The only thing that made me laugh a bit was Billy Porter’s “Witness my tragic moment” scene, maybe this is what he said when he first saw the film himself!
