The Mark of the Bell Witch is another impressive Small Town Monsters documentary, written and directed by Seth Breedlove. It stars Adrienne Breedlove, Amy Davies, Aaron Gascon, Thomas Koosed, and Grayden Nance. Witness the terrifying true story of the Bell family and their battle with a supernatural witch, hell-bent on destroying their lives.

When it comes to the legend of Kate, the infamous Bell Witch of Adams, Tennessee, there are a lot of rumors and speculation surrounding the events that took place from 1817-1821. Who and what was responsible for the demise of the family and the ultimate death of the patriarch, John Bell Sr., remains a mystery to this day. Many concluded it was their daughter, Betsy, who was behind it all and had tricked them into believing the witch was real. However, no evidence of the claims has ever been provided.

This film’s release marks the 200th anniversary of the incidents and does a stellar job of discerning the truths and dispelling the myths often associated with the tale. It does a thorough job of taking you through the entire story piece by piece and examining the details while still maintaining an unbiased opinion. It’s startling, disturbing, and extremely well done.

As usual, the cinematography was incredible and the acting was fantastic. There were a few excellent special guests such as folklorist Dr. Brandon Barker from Indiana University, Forrest Burgess the host of the Astonishing Legends Podcast, and Author and Adams’s Historian, Timothy Henson. Also, the pacing of the story and dramatizations seemed to flow perfectly and the visuals were amazing.

The Mark of the Bell Witch is bizarre, creepy, and extremely fascinating. Stories like these are a vital piece of our history and need to continue to be told and passed down as time rolls on. It’s intriguing, mysterious, and frightening. If you’re looking for something enlightening, shocking, and absorbing, go pick this one up. It’s sure to give you the chills.
