Royd Tolkien Starts There’s a Hole in my Bucket on Kickstarter

Earlier today you may have seen me tweet out about the Kickstarter that my dear friend Royd Tolkien has started, called “There’s a Hole in my Bucket“.

I first met Royd at SciFi Weekender in Pwllehli, North Wales, where he was gave me some advice before going on the stage to do my first live “show” in front of an audience, the rest they say is history, but being that we did become friends, it was a no brainer for me to help out with the new kickstarter that he has started and help promote it here on Blazing Minds and via social networks.

There’s a Hole in my Bucket!

As you can see from the tweet above, Royd sadly lost his brother to ALS, the Kickstarter is to help with doing Mike’s bucket list and you can help Royd with the film.

I’m going to New Zealand and I’m going to do the Bucket List. I really am. The risks and challenges come when I find out what’s on the list but it doesn’t matter what’s on the list, because I’m doing it anyway! – Royd Tolkien

In September 2012, Mike was diagnosed with ALS, Motor Neurone Disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Royd and his family knew it was terminal with no known medical cure. It destroys the neurones that send signals to the different parts of the body while keeping the mind perfectly intact. You become a prisoner in your own body as it aggressively renders your physical form useless. On January 28th 2015 Royd’s “beautiful, strong, fearless” brother passed away.

Many of you reading this will remember the Ice Bucket Challenge when people across the world were doing a challenge of having a bucket of ice water poured over their head in aid of rasing money for ALS.

Mike loved orchestrating any awkward embarrassing situations that would make me look as big a buffoon as possible. There was no greater joy to me than to see him laugh, and he laughed the most when he could set me up for a fall! He compiled a list over the last 2 years of 50 things he wants me to do. There are 49 left and I’ve absolutely no idea what they are. – Royd Tolkien

So now Royd is going to be doing Mike’s list and there may be some crazy things in there for him to do, but thanks to this Kickstarter fund, we will be able to follow Royd on his journey to see how he get’s on which each of the 49 remaining tasks.

Here at Blazing Minds we know that Royd can do them, even if he may be a little nervous about what he may have to do, but he is a determined and lovely guy and we are supporting him on this one and we hope that you will help support him as well.

Royd’s There’s a Hole in my Bucket has a target of £60,000 and he only has until the 22nd December to raise it, so please everyone, please help out.

It’s massively daunting, my heart pounds when I think about it, but that’s just because I’ve always avoided this sort of stuff. But I’m going, I’m doing it and that’s that! – Royd Tolkien

As is it is a Kickstarter there are several Rewards that you can get, all depending on the amount that you select to back the campaign with, starting from £5 which will get you “Exclusive Film Updates” up to £5000 which will get you a “Trip Around New Zealand”, but that one is limited to 5 people, so you may have to be quick on that one!
