Day Two of Sci-Fi Weekender 14 was the first full day after a night of partying with the SFW Award winners and nominees. The day kicked off with the Opening Ceremony followed by a packed schedule of chats and Q & As in the Main Void and more entertainment over in the Spaceport next door.
The one thing that makes SFW so much more entertaining and interesting is that it’s not just about the guest all sitting around tables in a big all, signing autographs and then being whisked away to a room, at Sci-Fi Weekender (which is so much more a festival of all thing Sci-Fi and more) the guest take the time to walk around and chat with people, they even sit in the audience and watch the Q & As, talks and even the evening’s entertainment that I have to say blew the roof off over the weekend.
Friday saw Stephen Cox, Victor Dorobantu, Frazer Hines, Wendy Padbury, Chase Masterson, Dacre Stoker and George Coppen taking to the stage for plenty of talks and Q & As, there was so much going on that I was running everywhere trying to catch up on as much as I possibly could.
At 6 pm it was a chance to charge my batteries and those of the cameras, as the Main Void and Spaceport closed to set up for the evening’s entertainment, at 7:30 pm it was time to enjoy the Imaginarium with the brilliant Area 51 which featured more bizarre stuff including stand up, magic and some eye-popping things done with a tennis racket!
The Popup Puppet Cinema also made a triumphant return to SFW and they brought us a new show with their take on Forbidden Planet which was amazing and very funny, plus they delighted fans with Back to the Future.
Professor Elemental had the audience singing along with his style of music, followed by the brilliant Madam Misfit. But what a lot of us were all waiting for was the return of Blues Harvest and their special guest the Hit Dang man himself, Darth Elvis in what is one of his last performances.
Blues Harvest and Darth Elvis were the ultimate entertainment for me on Friday night and it was great to see them all back on the stage.
The evening in the Spaceport saw performances from Experimental Sonic Machines, Graham Graham Beck and Simon & Boo.
As the night came to an end, we left the Main Voide at around 1 am after DJ Nick Maxwell brought a set to end the day, headed back to the caravan and tried to get some sleep ready for the final day.
