Many of you that have been reading Blazing Minds for some time will have seen us post about the very first SciFi Wales last year.
It was an honour that the organisers asked us back for the second SciFi Wales event held again at Venue Cymru in beautiful Llandudno and although the weather wasn’t that nice, there was very happy and exciting atmosphere in the building throughout the day.
This year’s SciFi Wales saw guests from Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Doctor Who and many other amazing TV Shows and blockbuster Hollywood movies, as well as those in smaller but very well known productions.
The Return of SciFi Wales
It was hard to believe that it had been a year since the very first SciFi Wales and this year’s 2nd event was back to show Llandudno how it’s done, this year saw more people coming through the doors of the North Wales event, a great collection of traders in the main hall, some amazing cosplayers, brilliant guests and we were even treating to wrestling from Conwy County Wrestling.
Like last year’s SciFi Wales this year saw 2Kill Comic launch issue #2 to the guests during their Q&A with regular Q&A guru, Stuart Bannerman, they also announced the upcoming project for a new comic based on the short web series, Scarlett which we were lucky to preview during the series premiere back in 2012.
SciFi Wales Does Cosplay
As with many “Comic-Con” events, the cosplayers are always a joy to see, with so many spending months on their cosplay. This year saw several Harley Quinn’s dotted around the venue, seems Suicide Squad has been very popular this year.
With old and young, getting involved with the cosplaying this year, it’s been fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves and talking away with the professional cosplayers for tips on their superb outfits. But sometimes that trouble Kylo Ren has to go up against the big guys to prove he’s the best!
The Force was Strong at SciFi Wales 2016
As a big Star Wars fan, this year’s event was a cross-generation of Star Wars cohorts with the Q&A panel spreading from Episode IV to Episode VII. What an amazing chance to see so many greats from the Star Wars world.
The Stars Wars Q&A panel included Alan Harris (Bounty Hunter Bossk), Paul Blake (Greedo), Paul Warren (Varmik), Toby Philpott (Puppeteer for Jabba), Clem So (Resistance Fighter) and Gerald Home (Tessek).
Again the Q&A was compared by Stuart Bannerman who did a brilliant job if that had been me I would have been lost for words. It was great to hear the amusing and interesting stories from almost 40 years of Star Wars history of the seven films. So glad I didn’t miss this one.
Game of Thrones at SciFi Wales 2016
Another one of the Q&A panels was from the various cast from the ever-popular TV series, Game of Thrones, this Q&A featured the extremely tall Ian Whyte (White Walker), Ross O’Hennessy (Rattleshirt), Sarine Sofair (Lhara) and Ross Mullan (White Walker).
Again this was a fascinating Q&A delving into not only the world of Games of Thrones but also into other work that the actors have been involved with and some upcoming projects that we can see them in. Plus we got to learn about their favourite shows via questions asked by the audience and a rather rude story from Ian Whyte about a certainly dangly bit in the movie Outcast!
During the Game of Thrones Q&A, we also did a Facebook Live broadcast, but we had some dips in the WiFi, but new technology is here to test us folks, next year we go full video for you guys, who knows.
SciFi Wales Guests Galore!
So this year there were some amazing guests and it was tough to cram everything in, last year we chatted to everyone, this year we focussed on checking out the Q&As which was brilliant and Stuart from “From Page 2 Screen” did another outstanding job as always.
We would love to say massive thanks to SciFi Wales for having us along for the 2nd year and for putting on an amazing event, well done to the winners of the chocolate Pokemon Ball that was created by the amazing Baravelli’s and auctioned off for charity, thanks to Clem So for the lovely chat, also to Emma Dark (I’ll be posting up about Seize The Night soon) and not forgetting the brilliant Andy Fairhurst who I didn’t get to have a lengthy chat with, but managed to coax him into a poser photo.
So what now, well now we start getting excited for SciFi Wales 2017 which takes place on the 2nd September 2017 at Venue Cymru, see you there.
