The Montagues Rock at Bar 236 in Prestatyn

It was the first time for me to catch The Montagues performing together, after an awesome night with lead singer Kyle at the Mulberry in Conwy it was a trip to Bar 236 in Prestatyn to catch them for a night of music.

Kyle kicked off the evening with a solo performance before the band hit the stage and brought the place alive with rip-roaring riffs, kick-ass drums and of course amazing vocals from Kyle and John, these guys certainly know how to rock and to rock it up big time.

Those of you that have heard me spin their tracks on my radio show on Phase Radio Wales will know how awesome they sound in the studio, but when it comes to a live performance they show an absolute force majeure of taken together, the pure power of their live show is outstanding.

Even with a rather rowdy crowd at Bar 236, they showed that they have the talent and skill to perform in the wildest of venues and to overshadow the noise.

I’d been promising the guys I would see them love and this was my chance to get completely blown away by possibly one of the best local live bands I’ve seen in many years, it’s not very often that a band comes along that is so polished and well-produced as these guys, giving a faultless performance of awesome tracks including Nothing To Everything that was a pure rock indulgence compared to the studio version, with its bass and beat breakdown with lead guitar that I’ve not seen since the days of some of the top prog-rock bands of yesteryear, stunning, to say the least.

The Montagues are a band that work extremely well together with each one of the band accompany each other perfectly, the big band sound that the four of them have is something some bands struggle with, but not these guys, you can see the pure passion and fun they have performing together and it shows in the sound that they produce even in Bar 236 that has a rather low ceiling that plays havoc with acoustics, Side to Side that has an amazing drum track from Jack and luscious vocals from Kyle exploded through Bar 236 with the power of a stadium gig.

The sheer talent that The Montagues show is in their live performances if you’ve not seen them live then you need to check them out, you are in the most exciting ride of your life, this is a band that has the power to have any venue eating out of their hands. Any venues out there need to book these guys and having them rocking the place with their massive sound and pure unadulterated rock, I tip my hat to Jack on Drums, Mike on Guitar, Jon on Bass and Kyle on Vocals and Guitar, you guys have brought a smile to my face during what turned out to be one of the best small gigs I’ve been to in a long time.
